A major update will be done after CeBIT, where many new chipsets/motherboards are revealed (X48, 790i SLI, and a bunch of chipsets for AMD), and then in June-July (Intel 4-series).

I began to search my options to build a new Desktop PC a month ago. My decision lands on AMD Athlon 64x2. I bought this processor, ADO4400IAA5DO. After I placed the order, I found there are very few MOBOs support this process. Majority MOBOsupport stepping G1 or F. My questions are:
1) Why is that? Is that because this processor was released recently? From AMD web site, I cannot even find a MOBO supports G2 processor through recommended system component link.
2) I would like to get a low end ATX Mobo. Among the ones recommended in your recommendations, only GA-MA69G-S3H supports this processor. None of the Biostar MOBOs supports. Then I found this MSI MOBO, K9N Neo-F V3, does support too. Is this MSI MOBO a good one? Can you recommend a good MOBO which support 4400+ stepping G2 processor? Personally, I really like the Biostar MOBO's features.
Thanks!

As I wrote in the previous post, it's a transition time for the AMD platform. Lots of new chipsets will be released tomorrow at CeBIT (AMD 780G, GeForce 8200/8300, nForce 730a, nForce 750a SLI, nForce 780a SLI). You'd better wait for a while and choose a mb from them. My recommendations will be updated accordingly. If you want a mb immediately, then

- MSI K9AG Neo2-Digital, $80

is a good one as well as K9N Neo-F V3.

If a processor is not on that mb's supported cpu list, what will happen if I plug that processor on? The system won't boot up or just Bios won't recognize it? I compare the 4400+ G1 vs. G2 from AMD web site. The one obvious difference is the cpu voltage, G2 is 1.325/1.35/1.375V vs. G1 is 1.25V/1.35V.

Uhm, this could be very different

Maybe the MB shows wrong CPU-description, maybe it would not show a picture

Hi.

I wish to gift my mom her first notebook. I've zeroed in on the following two machines:

Compaq V3749AU
-----------------------------------
AMD Turion 64 X2 TL-60
NVidia MCP67M chipset
NVidia GeForce Go 7150M GPU (upto 799 Mbytes of available video memory)
-----------------------------------

HP Compaq 6515B
-----------------------------------
AMD Turion 64 X2 TL-60
AMD M690T chipset
ATi Mobility Radeon X1250 GPU (upto 512 Mbytes of shared video memory)
-----------------------------------

The rest of the specs are mostly similar.

Which one of these would be a better choice?

Holy Sh-t! I wandered into this thread a few times last year but did not follow it. I can hardly believe the extensive and concise reference you have compiled here. Very impressive. Thank you for this.

Helas, this highly informative (perhaps too informative?) thread has been permitted to lapse and stagnate. The motherboard recommendations appear not to have been updated since early this year (for example you don't see anything on Intel P45 and AMD 780G boards). The thread is also laid out in a way that makes it difficult to navigate or update (the OP reserved too many posts, I feel). Of course, all credit and honour to the OP for assembling and editing such a massive codex.
