I've got a Black & Decker 18 V weed hog. Works well, one battery charge does my yard, (small yard but I have a privacy fence I trim around). It's 4 years old and I just now had to replace one of the batteries, it comes with 2 batteries. I've got no complaints and you can get one on sale for about $90.

Love my BnD HedgeHog !! Easy auto feed on the spooler line and the spool replacements are PlaySkool simple. I actually bought the 3 tool BnD Lawncare Center from Amazon back when it was on sale for $140:

The hedge trimmer is the best of the three tools, with the weed whacker a close second. The leaf blower is underpowered but adequate. Dry leaves ? No problem. Wet stuff or a large pile ?? Ehh, not so much.

The batteries will only hold a solid charge for a year, and then rapidly lose their holding capacity every year after that. Mine will go about 8-9 minutes now compared to 20+ minutes when new two years ago. They aren't that cheap, but that is the downfall of the kit if there is one.

I had that cordless B&D setup.....batteries last about 1 year. (I used my tools at least once a week)...I ended up with 12 batteries total in order to do my full yard (8000 sq ft, plus a 40' Hibiscus hedge).

When most of my batteries were stolen I decided to spend the money on the new Echo PAS-225 Value kit....about $349 I think with edger and trimmer...I picked up the hedger and a Stihl BG-55 blower.

The B&D blower is terrible.

I got a b&d cordless electric weed whacker 8 or 9 years ago. It's fine for my 3600sf lot, but I can only do the back yard or the front yard with it. Not enough charge for both. (I am perfectly happy about this. Out of charge?! Oh no! Guess I'll need to go inside and relax. :p )

The line feeds out fine. I never have any problems with that or replacing the reel.

Maybe things have changed with batteries and whatnot but I'd think 0.5 acres would be a bit much for a cordless.
