Cordless phones interfere with wireless routers?

I have an older Netgeare MR814 (I think) wireless router and need a new cordless phone. I've heard that 2.4Ghz phones and cause issues when you have a wireless network since they also run on 2.4Ghz. How bad is the interfierence or what might happen? I don't use wireless very often but it's always on since it's my router. I could log into the router and turn off wireless when 'm not using it (would that help?) but am not sure.

I don't want to spend the money for a 5.xGhz phone and not many places sell 900Mhz phones any more. Anyone have experience with phones and routers causing issues with each other?

EDIT: I'm not worried about the phone killing the router, but I don't want the router to mess up the phone...

Mine is pretty bad. Sometimes when the phone rings It'll drop the connection completely. It might depend on placement, when I get time I may try to move things around.

that's what happens with my panasonic cordless phone. when it rings, my wireless connection drops. when it's done ringing, it comes back up.

WOuld the wireless router ever affect the phone or is ut normally just the other way around that the phone kills the network? I don't really care if the phone screws with the wireless network since I'm not on it much, but if the router messes with the phone, then that'd be bad.

I have no problems at all with mine.

I'm using an SMC Barricage G 802.11g wireless router and a Uniden 2.4GHz cordless phone. Neither has ever interfered with the other. That said, I have my wireless router set up using the non-default channel (there are 9 available 802.11g channels) and my Uniden phone, while 2.4 GHz, is analogue.

The router and the phone's base station are both in the same room, about 15 feet from each other.

I do have 11 channels to choose from on my router so I guess I can always just try it and see what happens. The phone base and router would be about 10 feet from each other....

Oh well. Time will tell I guess.

Oh, and it's only a B router if that matters.
