Sorry if somebody already posted this, but the Panasonic KX-TC1703B 900MHz was $29.00 at my local OfficeMax yesterday. They were using some kind of instant rebate, but you walk out with the phone for $29.00. You WILL NOT find a better bang for the buck than that!

For once I agree with you 😀

Panasonic 900 Mhz cordless phones give you maximum bang-age for your buck-age.

Remember, all those cheapies, in both 900 and 2400 MHz form, do not have digital voice (a digital security code is not the same thing). Anyone with a scanner can tune right in to an analog-voice phone and listen to you give out private info, credit cards, etc. Someone with some good ears (or a decoder that they can easily build) could even listen to you enter touch tones containing CC numbers and account numbers. If someone tunes into a digital-voice conversation, all they will hear is buzzing. Digital voice is a must, IMHO, and DSS is even better.

2.4ghz phones have less range more clarity though closer to the charging unit, also try using your 2.4ghz phone next to a mircowave or 802.11b, they both run at that frequency casuing noise, 900mhz phones are best for overall range and clarity, 2.4ghz and above is just amarketing ploy that a higher number is better

I didn't read all the posts but this is the deal. Make sure you get a "Spread Spectrum" phone. You'll get the increased range you want. Beyond that, 900Mhz has many advantages over the 2.4Ghz because the wavelength of the signal isn't as compact. With higher frequency phones, the signal won't travel as far and will require more power. For these reasons, I prefer 900Mhz....

However, I must say that a 2.4Ghz phone has advantages as well. The reason they upped the frequency on those phones is because there are only so many frequencies and many of them are overused. THe 900Mhz range is used by analog cellphones and many other cordless phones so you can pick up a lot of interference. Microwaves operate around 2.4Ghz, but you shouldn't get much interference from them because they shouldn't be leaking any radiation...

Original cordless phones from the 80s and early 90s operated around 40Mhz to 60Mhz. Those bands were used by many other low frequency radios and got more interference...therefore, they're not used too much anymore.
