Cordless or Optical?

Any comments on which might be best? And what's the battery life like?

I've never used either but the thought of no cord is more appealing than having to clean the ball once in a while.

And whats the score with this new Logitech mouse that helps 'feel' your way around the desktop?

i have the logitech itouch KB/mouse. love them. i prefer cordless over optical since i don't like to be hindered by the cord. if logitech made a cordless optical, i'd be on it...heh

I have the Logitech cordless, and love it. Batteries last about 2-3 months for me. It will warn you when they are getting low on power, giving you a couple days to get fresh ones.

A while back someone posted a link to a Wacom graphics pad that had a cordless optical mouse, and it said that it didn't take batteries either. Um, how does that work?

with the graphics pad, the mouse has to be used on top of the pad.
and if it doesn't need batteries, then the pad is probably putting out an electromagnetic field which the mouse can passively effect and the pad can sense the changes thus sensing changes in mouse position...
like how does a metal detector work, same kinda deal
(educated guessing at work here)

I tried Microsoft's optical Explorer mouse (the big one) about 6 months ago and I wasn't that impressed. I replaced it with Logitech's Cordless Mouseman and it rocks. I'm getting the same battery life as L vis, i.e., 2-3 months.

patchy is probably right...

the sucker is just a massive sensor. you can draw with the pen without the pen touching anything... um, the mouse is not "optical" as it emits no LIGHT. but it is wireless without batteries =)

optical is SO nice. Cordless, i dunno, w/ FPS's, seems to not work as well. Then again, if you ain't gunna play games, who cares? I'm looking into the logitech wireless RF keyboards.. they just cost a tad too much.
