I just got a Logitech Cordless optical mouse and this mouse rocks. I was expecting some lag because it is cordless but I do not notice any playing Quake 3 or UT

Uhh, you know how Quake3 with Rails only is a totally different game on the Internet than a LAN party? This is because you have to "lead" your opponents with the weapon on the Internet when on a LAN it's "Instant Hit." This means that on the 'net you will be trying to line up straight-on shots, where the lag does not affect the aim. Strategies are totally different that way. If you play Quake single player or on a LAN enough you will notice that with this mouse you have to not only lead your aim, but it even takes a very noticable fraction of time longer to fire. That means that even when your aimer IS perfectly lined up and you DO click the button, the player will have moved or your aim continued moving by the time the weapon fires. This is IMPOSSIBLE to get used to in Quake3 Arena. If you're gonna be gaming, get a different mouse dude...

Guess that advice holds true if he's getting his butt kicked at LAN events. Though I didn't read either part of that equation in the original post.

My only complaint about my cordless mouse is I keep misplacing the dang thing. Use it as a remote control for watching movies in the next room :)

I haven't tried gaming on mine yet, but I am getting tired of replacing batteries every 3 months.

Before I sold it because I needed money my logitech cordless optical worked fine in gaming. I consistently placed top or 2nd place in FPS games.

I recommend you get 2 sets of rechargeables. It will be cheaper and less hassle in the end.

I used a logitech cordless mouse for a little while and didn't notice any additional latency as compared to a wired mouse when clicking or moving while gaming. However, the mouse seemed to not be able to handle clicking /and/ moving at the same time very well. It would be unresponsive to movement for a short period of time after clicking. This made it prettty much useless for first person shooter gaming, but wireless mice still do have their place on the desktop where mouse precision isn't so critical. YMMV.

interesting thread--i have been considering a cordless optical mouse purchase :) i take it that they are fine for working in apps but not so good in gaming where precision is a must?

Well, when I was testing the MS Wireless Intellimouse I couldn't play Minesweeper! I think and move so fast that when I clicked the button (When the cursor was over the block I needed to uncover) the mouse would continue moveing for a split second before the click was detected and *boom* wrong block is uncovered with a mine. This is NOT an example of where "gaming precision is a must," but rather an example of how the lag time will affect whatever you try to do. Well, the buttons are kind of small, but I'm sure some websites have small buttons too :)
