copyright laws concerning napster & alternatives to napster

In speech class, we have to make an informative speech, so I chose "alternatives to napster" as my topic. in the beginning of my guide, I'm going to list some of the most popular and easy to use napster substitutions. I think I might need to put a disclaimer, so what are some of the copyright laws that can justify d/ling of copyright music? such as the law that allows you to d/l a song you already own, sorta like a backup.


also, my list of practicle napster alternatives are quite low: I did a search and found most people recommend napigator, bearshare, and audiogalaxy. so in your opinion, what are some of the best napster alternatives (best ones being first)?

Yes I do.

Don't think there is such a law per se, but there are some that are relevant. One is the Digital Millenium Copyright Act. Another is the Audio Home Recording Act of 1992 and still another is the Digital Performance Right in Sound Recordings Act of 1995.

There is no law that allows you to do it. Audio Home Recording act allows you to make copies of albums you own, in the privacy of your own home, for personal use. Napster is nothing like that.
