Copying the whole DVD video into a CDR in new format (MPEG-4)

I have been unable to copy any DVD I have over 100 dvd and all I hgave tried so far are encypted.. any IDEAs how to get around this...

damn! you still need a 3rd party decoder to copy them? That sucks! Poor DeCSS is certainly well hunted by lawyers... still easy to find though..

I tried to compress those VOB files, but i got only 2:1 compression.
any idea on how to achieve 11:1 compression as claimed in the article?

On a sidenote:

What the heck is VCD as compared to Mpeg-4? Are VCD's easily copied and is that the popularity in them?

I understand what VCD is and how it works but is it really as popular as people say it is?? It looks poor in quality and I don't ever see myself spending the $$ over a DVD
