Copying files to iPhone, misc newbie questions

I currently have an iRiver iHP-120 that's about 4 years old (?), and I really have no complaints. Other than it's gray-scale and bigger and not as cool as an iPod Touch. ;-)

I'm thinking about getting an iTouch 32GB, but I'm not sure about the whole iTunes thing.

Do I *have* to use the interface to put music on? What if I jailbreak it?

I love the fact that I can drag-n-drop music files (of *any* format) on my iRiver.

Yes you have to use the interface. You may be able to do drag and drop if you jailbreak it because you have access to the file system when you jailbreak. What don't you like about iTunes?

You can use CopyTrans and not use itunes if that's what you prefer, however it's still not as simple as the iriver is. You're still using a special program to do it, copytrans is just a lot faster than itunes.

Are you picky at all about sound quality? If you've been running Rockbox on your iriver or something like that you probably are. If so then I would shy away from Apple products. The quality is fine for most average users, but for specialty users who like their music to sound amazing than nothing by apple so far cuts it.

I'm not that picky about sound quality. I installed RockBox mostly just because I could.

I like the 'cool' game and interface appeal of the iTouch. I'm a little tired of the monochrome iRiver.

I'm also a SERO/Sprint customer and am not about to give that up to get an iPhone.

The only thing I don't like about iTunes is that I've never used it. People tell me that it will take getting used to, especially coming from the iRiver world.

Is it possible to tether the iPod Touch to my Motorola Q (via cable? via Bluetooth?) to utilize its data plan for internet connectivity? I won't always be around a WiFi hot spot.

Nope, only BT profiles are A2DP and allowing it to connect to other ipod touches/iphones over BT for multiplayer games.

Note: the PAN profile is only for connecting to the other ipods/iphones as mentioned above.

You would have to jailbreak to tether.
