Copy system files between two SATA drives

I have an bootable CD w/ Caldera DOS. It came with an IDE Seagate drive I bought a while back. I once used that CD to copy the entire windows xp system to a different drive. Both drives were IDE though.

My maxtor drive (only a little over a year old) is failing me, I was lucky enough to be able to recover this morning. I can't take any chances, so I want to copy the system to a newer Hitachi SATA drive. The maxtor drive is an IDE, but it's on SATA adaptor now to gain a bit speed advantage. When I tried the old trick of using the Caldera DOS CD, it couldn't pass the initial "check drive configuration" stage. Can I get around this problem with the same trick? Or should I go for some newer software?

Any help is greatly appreciated.
