is this ok, as long as you include the source, author, and link to the site?

or are you only allowed a snippet of the article?

depends where you're using it...

a blog/portal type site that gathers news articles on a specific subject (sports in my case). i wouldn't be deceiving the reader into thinking that i wrote the article..the author/source would be in plain view.

Associated Press' policy, I'd imagine other news sites would be similar. You can check out the terms and conditions on any specific site.

Except as provided in this agreement, you may not copy, reproduce, publish, transmit, transfer, sell, rent, modify, create derivative works from, distribute, repost, perform, display, or in any way commercially exploit the Materials carried on this site, nor may you infringe upon any of the copyrights or other intellectual property rights contained in the Materials. You may not remove or alter, nor cause to be removed or altered, any copyright, trademark, or other proprietary notices or visual marks and logos from the Materials.

Copy/paste whole article is OK as long as you site your source. You also need to post your opinion about the article. If it's "news" then it should be posted to "politics and news."

why do you need to put in your opinion?

a lot of times they have a disclaimer that says you have to write/email to ask for permission to repost.

for example from cnn.com:
"For web posting, reprint, transcript or licensing requests for CNN material, please contact licensing.agent@turner.com"

Burn is citing this forum's policy, I beleive. The AP quote is a better indication of actual copyright law.

There is such a thing as "fair use," but I'm not sure what the rules of thumb are in this case.
