Look, there is such a thing as proportional response, ok? That's all I'm saying. Not all crimes are equal and responses like electric shock weapons should be saved for dangerous situations. And no I do not think that was dangerous in any way - 'running around naked'... oooo... I'm so scared. LOL @ 'streaking situations' glutenberg. "We have a streaking situation folks! Clear the building!"

I'm going to have to bow out of this one, I am biased against the police. My experience with them consists of seeing a friend punched in the ribs and pushed through a pane of glass, being forced to testify against a drug dealer who got only a fine and then proceeded to try to hunt me down and beat the sh1t out of me, etc.

Obviously you weren't there at the event but from the article, it seems that the students were quite afraid. As we have seen in the past, news reporting never tells the whole story but it's just silly to see the bandwagon abuse of power responses that we see here.

Regarding your bias, at least your honest about it. Out of curiousity, how did the police force you to testify?

Hey, what ever happened to that kid at UCLA that got tasered while whining about the PATRIOT Act?
About 2 weeks ago, he filed a federal lawsuit alleging excessive force and violation of the Americans With Disabilities Act (he is bipolar). Both the internal UCPD and independent investigations have not been completed.
Guy at UCLA computer lab gets tasered (now with youtube video!!) (a few posts on last page)

Killian was quiet and cooperative with officers once he got to the police station
... because he realized he was naked, greased up, and going to be put into a holding cell. Really, there are few situations that could be worse.

Wat kind of panzy students huddle in a corner in panic at the sight of a greased up naked guy? That would be hilarious! Where i came from the kid would get cheers the entire time.

exactly what i was thinking...its not like he had a gun or large samurai sword

Hindsight is 20/20. In the small amount of time you saw this guy appear, you're not gonna take the time to calmly look and examine every part of him and determine that he is not armed. He could be holding a small knife in his hand or a hypodermic needle. In reality people will just react to the situation, which is what they did

So therefore you should just tazer everyone for good measure, because you can't tell if any of them are armed, can you? In fact why not just fit everyone with collars so they don't even have to chase them to tazer them - they can just do it at will! Brilliant!

You obviously choose not to read to well. If you look CAREFULLY, my post is in response to the statement about the "panzy students." I was talking about their scared response. Reading comprehension FTL moron.

I think more people should be tasered for being idiots. I think I should be the one to decide who gets tasered and who doesn't get tasered. Dolorous Dave for President.

Will I get tasered?

Response is not the only duty we ask of police officers, prevention is also part of their job. And since the intentions of this kid were not clear, the officer had to decide in just a few seconds what action to take. No one got hurt, and the kid was taken into custody. That's the best possible outcome that we could ask from any police officer.

There are bad apples in any barrel. But handicapping all police officers based on your limited experience just doesn't make any sense. They do far more good on the whole, and we need to back up the ones who are doing a good job.

That depends. As a general rule, if you type words like "u" or "any1", I would most likely approve a hearty tasering.

Well I don't do that. If you can assure me that I will not be tasered, you have my vote.

I can assure you that you won't be tasered...in the next five minutes. My Presidency will be subject to vast and sudden swings of policy depending on how I feel about the previous night's episode of Scrubs or The Office.

I hope this won't be a problem.

You spoke too soon! His further posting shows that in 5 minutes or so, anyone not using words like "u" or "any1" will be tasered.

Viva la Resisitance! Down with Dave!

You'll be first to be tasered when the Revolution begins, traitor. However, I will go on record as saying that anyone using "Internet Speak" in my presence will always get tasered, no matter how sad I am about Jim and Pam not getting it on.

it was either take a club and knock the ****** out of him or tazer him. tazer was the option.

LOL, the only options in this situation are both violent in your opinion? Jesus Christ man, what happened to talking to people? Or simply leaving him to complete his streak across the room and leave? Even if he runs around for several minutes and makes everyone seriously uncomfortable, nobody gets hurt, isn't this the ideal? Nobody gets hurt?

That's hippy talk! The kid might have more sympathy from me if he stopped after the first time he was tasered.

Nevar! The Resistance shall wear Black!

Wait, what? No one said anything about a Resistance when I'm President. Everyone is supposed to think I'm totally awesome. Or they get tasered.

Nanthakumar (et al) in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology, Vol.48, No.4, 2006, pp799-804.

I can't reproduce items from the article due to copyright laws. I'm ignoring reports of tasers being listed as the primary cause of death for 61 individuals in 2005, and a contributing factor for many others who had preexisting heart conditions or had an altered state of mind, as they aren't scientific research.

They probably all deserved it, the wankers.

Of course. Everyone who is killed during an arrest, or subduing process, deserves it.

I know that's hyperbole/exaggeration, but consider this sequence of events.

1. Criminal doing something stupid.
2. Police arrive.
3. Criminal continues to do something stupid.
4. Police tell him to knock it off.
5. Criminal continues to do something stupid.
6. Police suggest that he knock it off or he'll get tased.
7. Criminal continues to do something stupid.
8. Police aim taser at criminal, tell him to knock it off right the f*ck now.
9. Criminal continues to do something stupid.
10. Police tase criminal.
11. Criminal continues to do something stupid by resisting arrest.
12. Police tase criminal again.
13. Criminal dies from heart condition.

I see five places where the criminal could have stopped being stupid, and only one of them is post-taser.
