Not enough info yet. The guy was drunk and could have made drunken threats about a bomb or anything could have happened. Certainly appears to be murder but how can anyone say yet?
 
Cops can be just as scummy and crooked as any other criminal.

Sadly, they are never held to a higher standard and receive endless protection and support to cover up anything bad they do.

Depends on the situation. If i was like this guy and assaulted in a parking lot of a hospital I would probly not have anything more than my 1911 with me. My door gets busted down at night by a random group of criminals with badges my LR-308 is 3 feet from my bed in the corner. LR-308 is basically an AR-15 chambered in .308 instead of .223. I use to be army infantry ETS in mid 2009 and I know our vests only stopped up to 7.62 x 39 (AK/SKS round) and thats with the ESAPI insert. I'm sure whatever they would be wearing wouldn't even offer them that. So in that case it would be much different.

I believe this forum leans libertarian to a degree much greater than does the general American population.

The particular story in question appears to be a sad case of police overreaction. But isolated incidents such as this do not dampen the general trend of increased police presence and surveillance. A trend which it appears that a majority of Americans accept.

(1) A drunken man refused to cooperate with police and they subdued him and the "unfortunate" happened.

(2) Several police officer decided to beat a man to death in front of witnesses

You tell me which option sounds more likely.

Cops could have started out legitimately using force, but its is completely obvious they crossed the line at some point.

Cops will get off scot free and taxpayers will pay out the ass.
