'Cops' Crew Member Killed by Officers While Show Films Armed Robbery



A staffer on the long-running television crime show Cops was shot and killed Tuesday night, reportedly by gun fire from local police, while videotaping an armed robbery in progress in Omaha, Nebraska, that also left the suspect dead.


More than 30 shots were fired, all by officers


The suspect held up a Wendy's employee at gunpoint and demanded cash before walking outside to find police waiting for him. The suspect was wounded and taken to Nebraska Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead.

Law enforcement sources told the World-Herald that the suspect, a parolee from Kansas, had an Airsoft gun on him, which is not an actual firearm.

Any comments? Those guys know the hazards of the job. It sucks, but filming the police carries with it an inherent danger.

I wonder if his family gets some sort of extra life insurance payout now.

At least 30 rounds fired.

They knew they shot the Cops crew guy too right away.

Did they really need all that deadly force?

YES!! They needed all that FORCE! after ALL the police hardly ever get to fire their weapons in a real life situation.

It`s a family -- the family that fires weapons together stays together!!!

Now you understand why people are afraid of the Police.....

after all there are so many real good, upstanding, polite and courteous cops.....

How much deadly force is appropriate to use against the suspect(s) in an armed robbery? ! shot? 5 shots? What if you use you shots up and the guy is now shooting at you, too bad so sad?

There is not nearly enough info here to make the call about what happened and if it was excessive or not.

So the audio guys was shot by the cops so was it a ricochet or was he in a crossfire?

Not enough info. I think a news conference is schedule for 2:30 so we may know more. The crew member didn't die right away though, he died later at the hospital.

I have yet to see 30 shots confirmed, let alone stated anywhere else.
