He would have turned the music down and stopped shouting if asked?

They were just talking to him weren't they? They weren't throwing him to the ground or punching him.

Maybe? He was calmly walking toward them, as if he was going to engage in conversation. It wasn't until the point of arrest/detainment (which is not just talking) that the issue came at hand. If he was free to move around he most likely could have controlled the dog or even closed the windows at that point if needed. I'm guessing he didn't know he was walking up to them to get arrested/detained.

I don't see a whole lot of shouting going on. The guy pretty easily surrendered for arrest for someone who was doing a lot of shouting.

Even if the music angle is true, it's pretty unconvincing in front of the jury. Just take a look at the facebook comments. The video outrages people. This guy is getting a lot of money.

Yet I don't see anyone calling out the members saying the cops should be burned alive, and their families killed. There is some sick motherfuckers on this board that need the ban hammer.

Actually, I did. Families of cops are providing aid and comfort to terrorists. In other countries we send drones to bomb entire neighborhoods where terrorists live. In this country we give them badges, guns, and paychecks.

This.

The owner could have controlled the dog if the police didn't decide it was time to go into Billy Badass mode.

The dog was just sitting in the car obediently, just as the guy probably thought it would and he was going to talk to the pigs. Instead they decide to escalate it unnecessarily and that's when the dog jumps out. Even then, it just came over to check things out and didn't get aggressive until the pig did.

That's true but isn't it police policy to make sure that people aren't free to move around in that situation.

What jury? Have any of the police been charged with anything? (legit question, I'm on my phone it's difficult to look into things).

Whether people are outraged or not is irrelevant.
What would the guy get money for?

Ok, let's see.
To be clear, I don't know if the officers here arrested him or not, or on what charges. My point is that situation could happen just the way I described and no charges would be filed against the officers.
You can be cuffed and temporarily detained without being arrested.
These guys in the OP's video might get a letter in their file, have to go to a class, get a few days off, but they won't be charged with a crime.
You can be questioned by the police without being detained, which would allow the owner to continue to maintain control of his animal.

I'm just gonna go out on the limb here and say the guy will bring a civil suit.

Whether people are outraged or not is irrelevant.

Those are the same people who are going to make up your jury pool so it certainly is not irrelevant.

What would the guy get money for?

Violation of 42 USC 1983 and all foreseeable damages flowing from said violation.

That was strange. I don't see why they thought they needed to arrest the guy in the first place. The poor dog was just protecting it's master too. 🙁

Slapping the city with a suit and having the guy get paid millions (which I'm guessing will happen) is one thing, but there needs to be personal skin in the game for officers who don't conduct themselves according to the expectations. In this case, I don't see any reason why they needed to arrest the guy... unless they have some very good explanation, they should be personally liable to pay part of the civil suit settlement. It won't happen, but that's how it should work.

Wrong again (don't you guys ever get sick of that?).

Even after the two terrorists had detained the owner, the third terrorist came over looking for action. He was hopped up on adrenaline and apparently distraught that he hadn't been able to shoot something during the hostage situation, so he came over to "aid" the other terrorists with gun drawn fully intending to shoot someone/thing. After goading the rotweiller into lunging at him, he had his opportunity and took it.
I know you're just trolling (because nobody could be stupid enough to take such a position) but it would be funny if the cops seen this post and sued you for libel.

The guy who had his dog killed did a little interview:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gtIR_jUhIc8&feature=youtu.be

Confirmed that the officer that came over after the others and shot the dog was officer Salmon, the same one who was a defendant in the case I posted previously in the thread where they kicked the guy in the head and broke his jaw.

I'm not taking any side with this comment but if it were me I would have left the dog in the car while I filmed, all kinds of people around, why put a dog in a situation where a problem might happen?

Owner's fault. Don't be dumb.

Sure; the next time a cop shows up at your house and you leave your dog inside with the doggy door unlocked, and you walk outside thinking they just want to talk but instead you get arrested for really no reason, and the dog freaks out and tries to protect you and the cops shoot it, go ahead and blame yourself.

Pretty reasonable comparison.

Which part would be libelous? Calling them terrorists?

Definition of TERRORISM: the systematic use of terror especially as a means of coercion
or
Terrorism is the systematic use of terror, often violent, especially as a means of coercion.

Not libel. The current police state makes them terrorists to the American public.

Saying they are hopped up on adrenaline, or escalating the situation solely for the purpose of taking violent action? Nope, they've shown this behavior many times in the past.

But you are correct; they very well may do such a thing, even if they don't have a foot to stand on. It's in their nature to intimidate people with a dissenting voice for the purpose of shutting them up.

What he's saying is that only dumb people have dogs big enough for someone else to see them as a threat. If that had been a Pomeranian I bet it would still be alive.

Not just big dogs, I know people who are deathly afraid of ALL dogs (She was afraid of Shetlands aka Shelties).

Some people are just weird, dogs rock. It is true thought that the breed goes with the owner though...Pits and Rotties are usually owned by dumbasses and "thuggn it and lovin it" types around where I live.

The cop didn't show up at the guy's house, the guy showed up to a police scene. He was walking five feet behind the police cars during a hostage situation, got his dog out of the car, and was aiming something at police officers trying to do their jobs. From that distance there is no way to tell what he was doing. For all the police know, the a guy inside the house called one of his buddies to come help him out. Stay the fuck out of the way.

And I don't know why you have a doggy door leading to a public area, but yeah, if your dog freaks out on me I'm gonna protect myself. What would you recommend the police officer do at that point when he is being attacked?

Sure the arrest is complete BS but that doesn't justify having a threatening dog that's out in public that is trying to attack people.

If you know the dog is that kind of a threat then it's your priority to keep it away from people it can harm and not let it out or better yet had trained it so it doesn't lunge at people especially when they were not hurting you.

There's a big difference between being detained/arrested and being booked and charged. What the cops did might have been a slight hasle for the guy but it's not out of bounds. Having a loose dog is always a risk. It can get hit by a car, it can get shot by livestock owners, and it can get shot by the police as we see here.

Bummer but the guy isn't getting anything for this. He put himself in a bad situation for no reason apparently. I still don't understand what he was doing. This is no different than these idiots who try to film a fight on a bus or subway with their iphone in everyone's face to get it on youtube and then get surprised when they get punched. "I wasn't doing anything!" Yes you were. You were there minding sticking your head in someone elses business and things didn't go the way you planned.

Hope something like this doesn't happen to me. I'd be in prison the rest of my life after brutally murdering the cop that kills my dog

After the last two responses to what I contributed, I give up. Some people just don't get it.

My final words: I hope those officers are properly punished and that the department doesn't continue to try and condone their initial actions.

We get what you are saying but getting arrested even if it was for a wrong reason does not mean the cops are not allowed to defend themselves in the process and having a animal that poses a threat out in public is your fault for both not keeping it restrained and even more so for training it that way.
