So a second video has been released of Leon Rosby and the events leading up to the shooting of his dog. Here's my take on this video -
- Dozens of bystanders are observing and taking video of the scene from a safe distance
- Rosby pulls up blaring "Lovers and Friends" by Lil Jon & The East Side Boyz, featuring Ludacris and Usher. Excellent choice.
- A police officer on a bullhorn is heard in the background, but the commands are inaudible because they are being drowned out by Rosby's stereo
- Rosby gets his dog out of the car and approaches the standoff/hostage situation
- A police officer tells Rosby "Put your dog back in the car and go," but Rosby cannot hear him because his stereo is so loud, so he asks the officer to repeat himself
- The officer again tells Rosby to "Put your dog back in the car and go," to which Rosby defiantly says "My car (or dog) is ok, and I can stay here and watch"
- The officer replies with "Do you want to go to jail?", to which Rosby again replies "I can stay here and watch, you want to take me?" The officer again warns him, "If not you're going to go to jail."
- The officers then turn their attention away from Rosby and back toward the standoff/hostage situation while Rosby continues to yell at police
- The bull horn is heard again telling the suspects something about their "last chance," but again this is inaudible due to Rosby's music
***The video then cuts out and resumes moments after Rosby is cuffed and just before his dog jumps out. In the first video you could see interaction between Rosby and the two arresting officers during the time the second video is cut out. Again, the conversation is inaudible because of the music, but police apparently give him additional warnings to leave the scene and Rosby is retorting with questions about why there aren't any black cops*****
- When the video resumes, the police have Rosby cuffed and are emptying his pockets when his dog escapes from the car
- While the arresting officer maintains control of the suspect, the third officer (the one who shot the dog) approaches. He calmly approaches the dog and extends his non weapon hand in an attempt to establish rapport with the dog and gain control. The dog lunges at the officer and the officer then pulls away, and again calmly attempts to establish rapport with the dog (meanwhile Rosby is screaming hysterically). This time, the dog is more aggressive and jumps in the air at the officer, attempting to bite him. The officer pulls away and shoots the dog in self defense.
