Cops aren't all bad, A few years back when I was young and stupid, I tryed to out run a couple of highway patrol cars, just to see if my car was faster, which it was...until it ran out of fuel, which was funny because we had been heading to a gas station to fill up, any way after i had pulled up, i was dragged out of the car at gun point, while the coppers checked my car for drugs and to see if it was stolen, after they figured out that i was just stupid, they picked me up off the ground, uncuffed me, handed me back my licence said the fines are in the mail, one officer than turned around to me and asked why I pulled over, when I told them that i had run out of fuel, they all laughed, thanked me for giving them something to, told my that my ride was sweet looking and then offered to give me a lift to a gas station to get some fuel.
I was surprized by the way they acted and have since stopped giving the fuzz a hard time, even if I had to walk for the next 2 years, that was about 4 years ago, I haven't been booked since, and sometimes get pulled up by the same coppers just so they can have a look at my ride and to ask if I can relieve there boredom.
I usually respond "pffft like I'm made of money"

Yes, it is an aggressive action. The officer told him specifically not to get out, and your friend ignored him for the sole purpose of being an asshole. If he was dancing around in front of his car with the music up (like a blazing retard), there was no way to know that he wasn't just going to snap and pull a gun out.

If you consider it your Right as an American to dance in front of your car while an officer is stopping you for a broken headlight, because you think he should have "better things to do", I recommend you crawl inside your oven immediately.

WTF is SO GODDAMNED difficult about keeping your ass in the fvcking car? Stay in the car, so the cop can do his job and you can be on your way. Getting out of the car to be a hardass is just inviting a reaction from the cop and prolongs the inconvenience of being pulled over. Cops do not like the people they pull over strolling around all over the place. They don't know you from dick. You could be wanted, you could have just robbed a convenience store, you could have just killed you whole family with salad tongs. They want you to stay in the car for theirs AND your protection.

Suppose in your effort to assert your right to be a hardass and not let "The Man" boss you around and violate your manhood, you decide to get out of your sh!tbox, and as you do, some dumbass on a cellphone plows into you and smears you all over the road? Had you remained in the vehicle, you would still be alive to fight the good fight another day.

Thats not the point, your knee-jerk reaction shows you don't understand what I'm talking about. People have certian rights when approached by an officer of the law. The law enfocement community like you to think its ok to do things detrimental to yourself like answering the the loaded question "so why were you speeding", and then when you want a little courtesy like stepping out of the car to talk to a cop instead of having him hover over you like some kind of felony traffic stop its not ok to do so. The law allows you to do things in a traffic stop to protect your rights and not make you feel like a criminal. So how about you have a nice cup of stfu and come back to me when you got something better, possibly without 6 exclamation points at the end of it.

Alright, I looked it up, and there's nothing saying you have to remain in your car. You can get out if you so desire. You might get a gun pointed at you though. And you might get shot. But if you get shot just for getting out of your car, without a weapon, you can die content in knowing that a police officers life has been ruined.

I love being a smartass to cops. I've NEVER gotten a warning. I never expect to get a warning. I may as well have some fun with him for my $300. But it's not worth a bullet in the ass. I'll be staying in the car.
 
I saw a show on TV about how cops are trained. They are trained to be unpleasant because they have to deal with psychopaths who equate reasonable behavoir with weakness.

But considering what cops do day in and day out. you have to wonder what sort of person selects police work as a profession.

I didnt say it was appropriate in every situation. Im saying that you have the right to be treated like a noncriminal, Why can I not step out of my car and talk to a cop face to face, is there something wrong with that, hell he has a gun, a partner and a radio. All i would want is equal footing to argue my side of the story. If you want to do what they say ... fine I have no qualms with that, but at the very least you shoudl be aware of what you are and are not allowed to do by law. I have been pulled over by many cops on power trips, knowing your rights is a powerful thing and you should not trust the cops of informing you about them.

so are you saying the cop doesn't have the right to do what is neccessary to protect himself? stepping out of the car to talk to a cop and dancing around in the middle of the road are two entirely different things...and once again...how difficult is it to stay in your car...go be a cop for a year...let every single person you pull over jump right out of his/her vehicle and mosey around and see how long you last...i understand that you are probably a law abiding citizen who wouldn't attack a police officer, but are you going to say that every single person in the world is also? fight for your rights, but pick and choose your battles...i dont think sitting in your car is all that much to ask, really...

The police have absolutely nothing to do with my personal safety. If I'm in danger, my first thought is not "I'd better call the police." If you believe the police can protect you from anything, you might be more at home in the UK, with a more powerful nanny state to watch over you.

the only time a cops is allowed to pull a gun on you is in the case of a felony stop or if his life in in immenent danger from you. he cannot and should not pull a gun on you if it is a routine traffic stop, and you have no warrants or any other reason for him or her to feel you might be posing a treat to his safety. Just keep your distance let him see your hands and talk, simple as that.

I understand his point. I hate having a police officer hover over me, trying to get me to say something against myself, etc. It makes me feel like he's talking down to me, giving me a lecture. I'd like to stand eye to eye with him (although there's not a lot of police officers as tall as me.) I realize that police officers consider this threatening, and as outlined above, I don't find the comfort of standing eye to eye worth a bullet in the ass.

I think his point is that we have rights, and you should excercise them. Otherwise they just slowly erode away. For instance, if you were speeding, and you are pulled over, and the police officer asks if he can search your car, do you allow him to? Assuming you have nothing illegal or incriminating whatsoever in your car. Do you consent to a search?

I'm not saying that the police would be in the right shooting you. But even if that officer gets fired, or sent to jail, you're still dead. And I gaurantee you, if you get pulled over, and get out of your car before he gets out of his car, he will be opening his door with his pistol in hand.

If he sees you make motions and start grabbing at things in your car, or you start acting like a Grade-A Psychopath, he has every right to pull a gun on you to preserve his safety. I personally do not feel it is an infringement on my rights to let an officer draw his weapon before he sees where the other guy is stashing his, because its going to be far too late by then.

When you get pulled over, you put both hands on the wheel and face forward until he's at your window. You don't go into your pockets for a license or into your glovebox for registration until he asks you. I've never known a cop to bully anyone without being given a reason first.

i generally tell them to knock themselves out...and don't get searched, 90% of the time even though they have permission

If he insists on searching your car without probable cause, you ask him for his badge number first. Simple as that. You don't have to turn around and get back in his face to make the point. Yes, you have rights, but that doesn't mean you have to get in every cop's face like he's out to destroy the Constitution.

I didn't say to get in his face. I said that everyone has rights, and it's not the job of the police to inform you of those rights. They try to get you to dismiss them away, "Would you mind if I took a quick look in your trunk please?" Most people feel that they must consent to whatever a police officer asks them. They feel intimidated.
