Cops are pigs

Before I begin this post I must offer apologies to numerous people. I apologize to brxndxn, CADkindOfGuy, badruth, jumpr, Rogue, FallenHero, etc. To brxndxn and Cad, I offer an apology for doubting your stories, and being a belligerent moron. To badruth, jumpr, FallenHero, and Rogue, I apologize for believing in idealism, textbooks, and your dream. I'll preface this by saying it was St. Patrick's day. I finished my Political Science test about 7:00 and drove to pick up my friend, because he was out of gas, and most of my 21+ friends were working or studying. We went and had a few drinks(I had a pint of Guinness) and then went and played pool(where I had about 2 more beers). We then went and ate at the Japanese restaurant right down the street. We came to my car to come home(about 11:30) and there was a boot on my car. Apparently, I had to eat at the restaurant BEFORE a certain time or my car would be booted. I would have to pay 65 dollars to get the boot off. Our City council recently said that this was illegal and instructed the police to arrest anyone that booted a car on public property. Unfortunately, I was parked on private property, so after calling the police I was forced to pay the fine. Before paying the fine, the 3 parking enforcement officials(that were reachable by a Nextel cell number) decided to get into my face when I said I was calling the police. One proceeded to spit in in my face, and try to bump/fight me onto the ground. The police officer got there and said I could press charges, but that the booting was a civil matter(fine with me). So my friend and I started walking toward the ATM 4 blocks away. Immediately we heard screeching of tires and a car hitting another car. A wreck happened right next the me, and the driver drove off(apparently drunk) and so my friend and I proceeded to call the police. We had a full description of the vehicle, occupants, and direction. After 20 minutes or so a car finally arrived. The driver of the vehicle had fled into a bar and we pointed that out to the officer. The officer said he couldn't enter a report based on our eyewitness account, and that he had to have the owner of the first vehicle there. The first vehicle was parked, and locating the owner was impossible. I asked the officer if he could at least file a incident report to protect this guy for his insurance. At that point I was informed that I was "highly intoxicated, and had 1 minute to clear the area before being arrested." Never mind that my friend and I were sober and called the police to handle the hit and run. Never mind that I had a bad incident earlier in the year that made me doubt the police. After that, and the subsequent treatment for doing the right thing, I've concluded one thing. Most cops are lazy asshole power tripping dickheads and they would rather arrest me(for something that was BS) than actually do paper work for something serious. I am forced to conclude that cops are pigs, and unworthy of my support.

I'm changing my major to business, and I plan to become a lawyer to fight the swine on the streets. It is very possible that good cops exist, but I've yet to encounter very many. Textbook teaching of law enforcement(Criminal Justice) seems to be more of a theory than a reality. Cops are pigs and most deserve that title. I've been an ardent defender of the police, but no more. It is obvious to me that the police are power hungry, abusive, and are just like any other citizen. I can no longer respect them. I apologize to Rogue, FallenHero, badruth, and jumpr for the offense you might take to my post, but I can no longer ignore the truth. I apologize to all those that I insulted for their run-ins with the law. I'm an egotistical, moronic. prick, that though I knew reality.

Nice job on paragraphs Lifer. If you knew how to write, I'd read your stupid rant.

BTW.. I have a couple of close friends that are officers of the law and they are the best people that I know. Whatever your rambling sentence says, I think that you should change your offensive subject title because it's not true of ALL officers.

So? I'm quite aware of that and it is addressed in my post. The fact remains that I was hopelessly naive and actually believe that someone cared about civil service. I won't make the same mistake again.

I can see why you have come to this conclusion, but remember it was St. Pats day & most cops were working over time instead of being out & getting drunk.

Honestly, I'm in no mood for criticism from some fvckhead from Chicago. If you have a problem reading paragraphs longer than 4 sentences, then I suggest you enroll in remedial english.

I am sincerely sorry to hear of your incident. I know several police officers personally and have worked with many more, and have never had reason to doubt their integrity. However, knowing the general history of police organizations and hearing about the bad apples, I do realize that there are many bad police officers out there.

I think you would make a noble officer, Evan, perhaps too noble. Idealism is not necessarily a good thing when going into a field such as this, though in your case I think it will serve you well regardless of what field you choose.

If you're passionate about the work and doing well, go into it. It takes good officers to balance out the bad, and it takes their sacrifice and endurance to make the thin blue line survive. If you have changed your mind for good, then I wish you luck in business and I look forward to hiring you someday. :p

Regards,
Nate

Sorry, but If I work for a corporation I can't experience stress and take it out on consumers without experiencing reprisals. I was the first person on ATOT to support the police, and now I will be the last. I'll now question their every move.

I have dealt with a few who were real a-holes but a lot of them are nice and don't want to wade through the endless paperwork that is required when a nat sneezes when they're on patrol.

WTF??? I can just see it now.

Eyewitness - "I saw that guy over there shoot this guy in the head"
Cop - "I have to talk to the victim first"
Cop to victim - "Did he shoot you?"
Victim - " "
Cop - "Sorry, I can't take an eyewitness account, since the victim didn't wish to ID the shooter"
Eyewitness - "The fvcking guy is dead!!! And the shooter is right there with a gun!!"
Cop to eyewitness - "Clear out, you drunk b@stard!"

This kind of crap goes on every single damn day in Los Angeles, especially in the poorer neighborhoods.

The Rampart incident is not an isolated case.

i got into a business deal with a cop, and he totally focked me. Used his badge and the color of law to make threats to get what he wanted. Total BS. People like him should be shot.

In another light, one of my long time friends is a cop, and I know he is a good man.

I'm too idealistic, and perhaps a bit naive concerning the police. Somehow I believed they were actually doing that job for the same reason I wanted to do the job: to help people. Evidently, I'm a complete and utter moron. I'd blow off one experience(like I did with my recent problem) but several I cannot blow off. There is a serious problem with our civil service system, and I do believe it is due to education, intelligence, pay, and supervision. I don't think all officers are bad. I happen to know that Rogue is an exemplary officer and is probably due much credit and aware. However, Rogue is not who I deal with on a daily basis. I'll never call the police to report a crime again. Call it an extreme reaction, but it seems like they'd rather sit on their ass than have my help.

I'll be the first to say I deserve massive criticism and calls of hypocrisy. Let me make this clear, I WAS WRONG when it came to the police.

Hm... sounds like the cop couldn't do anything legally, but you (smelling of beer) kept bitching to him, so he did what he could to get rid of you.

And now you're going to become a lawyer because one guy wouldn't take a report from you? Talk about overreacting.

Call me a tool of the system, but I wouldn't recommend you take this course of action.

Get some sleep, Evan (like I'm about to do... mmmm, sleep). Let's chat tomorrow.

Sorry, but I'm well aware(legally) of what the officer can do. Secondly, I've always planned to be a lawyer after a fews years of civil service(if you've ever read my posts). Talk about overeacting...

It isn't like I served on Teen Court(as a prosecutor and defense attorney), worked for a high profile law firm, or have over 18 hours of CJ coursework or anything...

Because you had a bad experience with a police officer? Look at what cops have to do. Of course they are going to piss people off, sometimes unfairly, that is just the nature of the service they do. Your comments make you sound like an idiot.

If you don't read the post or know the circumstances, then I can only wish a fiery painful death upon you. Reread the post, get a goddamn clue, and STFU. Ok?
