Just installed a global WIN CAK-II38 onto my hot 1400C thunderbird and wot a difference ! About 5 deg C.

At first i just dabbed on the AS-II using the tip of the AS tube. Brought down the temp by 3 deg C. Then i reapplied the AS in an even thin film and presto, down by another 2 deg C.

My CPU now never goes above 50C even while running prime95.
I think it time to push 1600mhz 😉
 
That cak II heatsink is one of the best and better than the more popular sk6. Biggest difference is the thin fins are soldered to the bottom on the sk6 while the cak II is all one piece, the fins are skived out. And that makes for far better heat transfer and of course better cooling.

If you ever get tired of that loud delta fan you might try a much quieter fan off a volcano II or 5. Still cools well but temps go up 4-8 degrees. Better on da ears though. 😀

Blade made a good comment on the Delta fan. I have the origional CAK-38. It is a good HS; no doubt the extra fins improve this new model. The Delta fan "screamed" @ 6800 RPM. I tried several resistors in the 12 volt line. Ended up with a 5 ohm resistor which slowed fan to 6200 RPM. It was a lot less loud!! Next, placed spacers between HS and fan. Try between 1/8 and 1/4 inch spacers. The RPM dropped to 6000 RPM. What was happening was that the fan was in disturbed air and could not get a clean bite into the air near the fins of HS. Because the fan "loaded up;" it was pushing more air without the "scream." Experiment around and you will find the Delta fan more tolerable and still get good cooling!!
