I work for Best Buy and I know the way it works for us is that it doesn't void the warranty, but they don't cover it if something goes wrong due to the new HDD. However, I bet if you have them install it then they will cover it.

They would charge you for installing anything, even a sticker.

Quite simple. You replace the HDD with your new one on your own, if something goes wrong with the HDD it's on you. If the screen dies, for instance, swap the old HD back in.

Exactly,, i work for TAP (CompUSA's warranty department) tech support. My best advice to you is. Just dont tell anybody you replaced it :) thats the advice that i give customers that call in here. The store techs are so dumb that won't know the difference anyway. Only way you'd run into a problem is if the HDD died,, in that case ideally you'd still have your old one to throw back in there.

Oh and thanks for the info about us not being much help. :p you must have gotten one of our too abundant non-english speaking technicians. Most of the techs here couldn't find their wiener with both hands anyway. I'm actually the senior tech in my group.

hmm ur right... the guy did sound like he didnt speak english too well... though i called on the same number again and spoke to a nice / knowledgeable person who helped me out ....

Hmmmm , thanks for ur help.. i guess ill just go ahead and replace the HDD by myself.. i really cant pay 50 USD for comp usa techs to install a HDD which i could do by myself..
