Cop slugs protester in Occupy Wall Street protest

I posted about this in another thread but after looking into it more, I think it deserves it's own thread. Looks to be a clear case of police brutality. It doesn't matter what you want to claim this guy did to provoke the cop, it's never acceptable for a cop to haul off and punch someone that is walking away and is no threat.

Here is a video of the attack:

Articles about the attack:

Quote from the victim:
"The cop just lunged at me full throttle and hit me on the left side of my face.It tore my earring out. I remember seeing my earring on the ground next to me and it was full of blood. I was completely dumbstruck. I'm HIV positive and that cop should get tested."
Now wouldn't that be some karma at work.

Are we really gonna have to deal with 50 threads about this unemployed homeless outrage? can't we have just one thread? preferrably in P&N?

Occupy Wall Street = Park full of lazy ass people who rather smoke weed and play with there macbooks than get a job.

no, that cage is for you to complain about imaginary things that you heard from glenn beck.

Clear case? We're missing everything that led up to it.

Like I said, it doesn't matter what led up to it. It's not part of any arrest procedure to haul off and slug someone that is walking way. That's called police brutality.

Now, let's talk about what happened before, you only need to watch the second video on this page and skip to 1:30 mark:
http://gothamist.com/2011/10/14/hiv_positive_protester_says_cop_who.php
You see the cop walking behind the person at 1:32 and say "get on the sidewalk." The camera turns away but at 1:34 you hear the commotion from the punch.

Now go back to the original video. You can see the person in green a couple seconds before the punch. So, from these two videos you see pretty much the whole incident. At the most you might be missing 1 second. Nowhere do you see the person in green attacking the officer or anything like that.

Now the NYPD is saying this:
But Browne, the NYPD's top spokesman, said Rivera-Pitre provoked the confrontation by trying to elbow Cardona in the face - a blow the officer deflected.
"Others in the crowd jumped on the officer when he tried to apprehend the suspect," Browne said. "When the officer got to his feet he was sprayed in the face with an unknown liquid coming from the suspect's direction."
That's a bunch of bull, there wasn't enough time for all that to happen or we would have seen it in the video. Just another example of police trying to cover their ass and lying to protect their own bad cops.

wtf? I am getting sick of this stuff. What do you expect to accomplish? The only thing they are doing is draining more tax dollars.

This thread is not about the Wall St protests, it's about a case of police brutality. You can disagree with the protesters, that doesn't mean you need to excuse police brutality.

No this thread is about a seriously flimsy case of police brutality that would never hold water. You say only one second of video is missing. How quick can you throw an elbow. I know I can do it in less than a second. You should be able to as well, unless you're a fatty. You a fatty OP?

In other words, police brutality not found. I see a dumbass protestor looking for trouble and finding it.

Nope.

See, the rest of us actually have working brains.

I love your last article, bringing up how this person is HIV positive 😛 Talk about activism. That alone destroys the credibility.

My expert gut opinion says this guy went to the protests that day specifically looking to cause trouble, and he succeeded in his goal. I have no sympathy for him.

The bigger question is, why are you so interested in pinning this as police brutality? That's the far more interesting discussion 😀

Ahaha you called him fat.

Cop was probably mad because the protests are preventing him from living the American Dream of sitting around while eating donuts and drinking coffee.

What the heck is the protest about anyways. It's a complete waste of time and tax payer money. They should just herd up the protesters and put them on a deserted island so they can protest in peace.

yeah they shoulda done that with those black people in the 50's. remote sit-ins work great.

I'm curious, what would it take to get you to protest something? Would you be okay if it was you or how about your boyfriend that the cop slugged?

Do you think you have ther FULL story? Was the cop wrong? Probably..
Was the "Protester wrong"..... MOST probably.

We are losing this country. More on a daily basis. I have NEVER denied I am old. And somewhat old fashioned.

An officer tells me to STOP... You know what? I STOP. I dont run and then god forbid if I get hurt or worse during the ensuing chase, I sue the system because I am a complete moron.........

THOSE who think we live in a police state. Go to China. Iran, HELL even Mexico.
Feel free. Leave.

Are we perfect? No. But we are LIGHT YEARS ahead of what others have.
Here in Suffolk County NY they want to ban "High Speed Police Chases"....
OMFG... Why not just give the pond scum a "get Out of Jail free Card"?

YES... It sucks on the X% of the time when the chase ends up hurting an innocent........ But you pass that law, EVERY piece of human dung will rationalize "HELL, just drive fast and the Po Po will stop.".

Watching this great country spiral into the depths of insanity. And TRUST me, it aint those assholes on "Occupy Wall Street" who has the answer to the fix..... Not at all.
