Cop slams 15 year old girl to ground

I dont care what she did before that. He is a grown man..she is a 15 yold skinny little girl. He out weighs her by at least 150 lbs. There was no reason what so ever for him to handle her like that. If that was your daughter you would most likely be up in arms about that. He could easily have subdued her in any other number of ways. That was disgusting and as cop he should be ashamed and as a man double so.

If he can pick her up and throw her down like that then he could just as easily held her down or simply restrained her arms. Its pathetic and an abuse of power.

meh she was resisting. then tried to knee him

Hey, I'm going to reserve judgement on this one and give the cop the benefit of the doubt, but trying to knee him? That's a stretch. More like she was in a ton of lower back pain and was curling up trying to stop the pain.

I believe that is what the investigation is for...maybe we should just forward this thread to the PD and tell them to wrap up the investigation since ATOT knows all there is to know.
I would rather forward the thread to that cop asking if he treats his wife and kids that way, too. Sure he gets some practice in child beating before participating in the brawl.

This.

I have no problem with this. People these days have no respect for the law. She was probably screaming bloody murder and about to incite a riot. She got a big helping of stfu. Exactly what she needed.

He was clearly behind her and had control of the situation. She posed no threat to him and he could have easily cuffed / zip tied her. Instead he grabs her around the neck, picks her up, and slams her from 4ft high onto the pavement because that's what he wanted to do. At that point he was just another participant in the brawl. If you can't maintain a professional detachment and cool head when dealing with an unarmed 15 year old from an advantaged position you should not be walking around with a gun.

As for not having respect for law enforcement, disregarding it doesn't throw rules or common sense out of the window. Hell, even in war you have the law of proportionality. He could have ruined her back or caused head trauma needlessly because of a kids uncontrolled emotion all without any foreseeable gain to doing his job.

Sure, there's always the possibility that we didn't see everything in that video. She may have been reaching behind her back for a grenade or something, for all we know. From what you can see there's no excuse, though.

The clip is poorly timed for the officer, but hard to see how that would be justified. He didn't get her in a position to more easily control her any more than he could have when he was standing behind her. In fact he made it more difficult by then facing her front, where she was able to raise her hands and knees to prevent being cuffed. I have trouble making sense of what the point of that move is other than to physically punish her for not obeying the officer.

To those of you who think it's ok, what about if a random citizen did it? Then it would be assault and that person would probably go to jail. Why should a cop be allowed to do stuff like that and get away with it?

I've done things in my past that required a cop to treat me in a similar fashion. I'm ok with cops doing this.

He was most likely responding to actions initiated by the teenage girl. Had she been a cooperative citizen, I doubt this would have happened.

What happened before he slammed her?

Exactly. Without knowing what happened prior to what we see, it's difficult to say whether it was excessive or not.
I don't blame the cop a bit if she was resisting arrest or trying to get away.

Looked like he applied an appropriate amount of force...

So if someone is trying to escape it's ok to try to break their spine so they're paralyzed for life instead of just hand cuffing them?

I can tell you've never tried to handcuff someone who didn't want to be handcuffed.

Maybe up there in Canuckistan, people just yield to the RCMP and willingly stick out their hands to be cuffed...but down here...lots of people resist...some violently.

I live in Arlington. Good to see cops put the beat down on them youngsters!

Seriously though, it probably was excessive force, but not all cops are 6' foot brutes, so is it surprising to see a cop use a move as such to apprehend someone?

Either way, stupid bunch of kids for getting out of hand in the first place. East and central Arlington's crappy denizens are starting to spread even further west across Cooper St until the whole city turns to poop. Oh well.

The girl got exactly what was coming to her. Act like an animal get treated like one plain and simple...

ummm, that's why there are excessive force laws...even if someone is suspected of a crime, you can't "treated like an animal" with the use of excessive force.
