Cop shoots guy for pulling out his driver's liscence.

im happy the guy lived and happy the cop is getting in trouble but honestly how the fuck do you fire 3-4 shots from 10 feet and not actually kill the person you are shooting at
 
its like a run by shooting, you see the cop running left to right shooting at the poor guy. That totally affects your shooting too. I wonder why you just don't duck behind your police car and shoot? he probably could have killed the poor innocent man if he did that.

Guy: *Goes in car to grab license*
Cop: *BANG BANG BANG BANG* WHY DID YOU GO INTO YOUR CAR?!
 
The cop should not shoot, esp. there are so many people out there.

However, the truck was pulled over in the beginning, but it moved to gas station. I wonder why he did that.
 
Whenever I'm pulled over by the cops for speeding etc I am very careful to telegraph my actions and move slowly so as not to catch hot lead. This is one of the reasons why I usually take my wallet out of my back pocket and put it in the console or the passengers seat. That way, when I'm pulled over I have the wallet in a place that doesn't require a threatening reach. I also keep both hands on the steering wheel until I need to do something for them.

Part of the problem is that many people don't appreciate the risks cops are under and therefore fail to act carefully in situations like that. I'm not blaming the victims here just pointing out that cops ARE performing a dangerous job and human nature tells you that this increases the chance they will act aggressively when something isn't exactly as they expect.

It would suck to be a cop nowadays...

Jesus. Sometimes these events happen and there's room to debate about who should be blamed for it. That couldn't be more cut and dried. If I had left my wallet on the console or seat before getting out I'd probably have been shot too. It probably just wouldn't occur to me to not immediately reach for it when he asked for my license, though I guess telling him first that it was in my car would seem like a good idea in hindsight.

No. The guy was already stopped and getting out of his vehicle.

What I can't quite fathom is how any cop would have the gall to attempt to ticket someone stopping at a gas station for a seat belt violation.
 
First time I can recall this type of incident where the cop was fired within a reasonable amount of time and subsequently arrested and thrown in jail pending trial.

Normally, there's a lengthy investigation, and a bunch of public statements that appear to cover for the guy, and then it goes quiet for an extended period and something happens, and the guy keeps his job with a minor reprimand.

Bulls__t. Crime has been going down for decades and crime against police has also been going down as well.

Biggest reason cops quit is boredom. That and many of the risk come from them doing no knock warrants. shooting unarmed people, attacking those filming them, etc... police are their own worst enemies.

What exactly is more dangerous than being a cop? For starters, a trash collector is twice as likely to die on the job versus a cop, fishing is 7 times more dangerous than being a cop, and logging workers, nearly 9 times more dangerous.
The majority of police deaths are not as a result of violence in the line of duty either, most have occurred accidentally rather than feloniously.

Yea I'm like this too. I don't move unless I'm told to, and if I'm making any move, I'm telling the cop explicitly ie, if I didn't have time to pull my wallet, I'm telling the cop my wallet's in my back pocket and I need to reach for it etc.

A moving target is harder to hit. He thought the guy was pulling a gun.

My problem with it is that even if the guy had given up on retrieving his license and backed out of the truck the instant the cop started shouting at him, (that's almost what he did anyway) the result would have likely been the same. The cop shot him without so much as glancing at what might or might not have been in his hand. No matter what, the cop was assuming that this guy was coming out of that truck armed.
 
He seemed to pull him over for not putting on his seatbelt while he moved his car up in line for gas.
