Article says he fired 13 times, meaning he missed 2. How many times have you jumped out of a car with all the adrenaline in your body racing and emptied a magazine into a human being?

No comment on whether this was a "good shoot" as Spidey likes to say... but hitting 11 out of 13 is actually very high compared to average statistics that put hit ratio amongst cops at something like 20%.

Hell, have you ever seen the video of the guy outside a courthouse trying to kill his lawyer? He fires something like 6 shots at about 5 feet and misses with all of them.

or even professional soldiers for that matter. (Special Forces Operators excluded)
the range is 1 thing.. shooting a person with all that adrenaline and your heart rate through the roof is another all together.

BTW the rapid shooting that was displayed here is taught by the Military and all Police Academies and is actually part of their marksmanship review.

My roommate 15 years US Army and now HPD for 3 said flat out that is exactly what they are trained to do and he would have done the same if they suspect did not surrender and drop the wep.

The knife was found right there in the bed of the truck and can be seen early in the vid so he wasn't seeing things.

Gang member, check.
Previously convicted violent criminal, check.
Violating Parole, check.
Armed with a weapon, check.
Wanted by the Police for a domestic violence incident, check.
Cop yelling 'Drop the knife now!' and 'Hands up! Hands up, Ernie! Don't you move, Ernie, don't you move or I'll shoot you!' and you get out of the vehicle in a agitated manner with a knife, double check.

Clearly, the cop is a cold blooded murderer. And probably racist.

"Hands up! Hands up Ernie!"

No hands up.

"Don't you move!"

Moves.

"Don't you move, Ernie, I will shoot you!"

Threat of lethal force ignored, keeps moving.

"Hands up now!"

Keeps hands down.

"Drop the knife now!"

Reaches towards belt-line.

Hmmm... what could we have done differently here....

That's really strange that he leaped out like that. Him getting shot isn't out of hand, but the amount of shots fired is questionable. I guess it's just 1 of those heat of the moment things.... the wife coming out and see that shit is heart wrenching. WTF. o_O

Am I the only one who thinks the "grieving family members" at these press conferences always look like fat, ill dressed, drug addicts?

again the rapid fire is a taught reaction. and is drilled heavily. So it is an automatic trained reaction.
they are actually taught to empty the entire first mag drop it and fire the second all within 4 seconds.

That makes sense. I have no antipathy for the cop's reaction of shooting and what you say makes perfect sense. Honestly, the dude was really asking for it with his decision.

Sympathy for the wife & family though.

100% agreed it is never easy.. and I'm sure that officer is beating himself up about it.

Looks like a justified shooting. Guy jumped out of his truck and was madly grabbing for something in his pants. Cop clearly yelled hands up, but the guy went for his pockets. Dumb gangsta had a reality check.

Seriously, people are buying the "oh poor me" story about this low life?

It's pretty obvious this guy does everything you're not supposed to do when a cop is yelling instructions at you. If I wanted to get myself shot I would model my actions after this guy.

Yes, this is hard to watch... yes, I feel sympathy for his wife...

yes, it seems like a lot of bullets and one, in a perfect world, would love it if the officer could safely give the guy more time to comply...

but when you're a police officer who works in a dangerous area, and this was Oakland right? Been there... it's dangerous.

Anyway... when that's your line of work, you can't afford to be giving every thug and criminal the maximum leeway, because eventually one of them is going to take advantage, and kill you. We've all probably seen the videos of cops who got careless or took someone who seemed to be cooperative, personable, and nice at face value and ended up dead because they got into that lull.

If that officer wants to come home to HIS wife every night, and HIS kids, he has to have zero tolerance for bullshit.

If a man is scrambling out of a truck door and has something in his hand, and is being erratic and non-compliant... ignoring all police commands...

That guy had the option to put his hands out first, extended and clearly showing no weapon, and then calmly exit the vehicle... if he was caught in the seat belt in some way, I think that's only due to trying to get out in such a weird fashion. cop clearly thought he saw a knife, but in those adrenaline packed moments does he know for sure there isn't a gun also? That's why compliance is so important, when you have someone with a gun pointed at you, whose life depends on being prepared to shoot someone before getting shot... and they're stressed, full of adrenaline, and on edge, yelling commands at you... you fucking obey them.

He chose to ignore the police directives which, had they been complied with, would have kept him alive.

Who is this disgusting DA or whatever who decided to try to charge this cop with murder?
