Cop runs red light, causes fatal accident - found not guilty

Wow, that's pretty damning evidence against the other driver. Signal on, in the turn lane, but didn't turn? No seatbelt? Sounds like she was obviously not paying attention. Not that she deserved to die, but she definitely holds some (most?) of the blame for the collision.

It's obvious why the cop was let off, but it still seems to me that, for safety's sake, she should have turned her siren on before getting up to that speed. Since it's apparently not easy to turn them on while quickly approaching an intersection.

After reading that new link, I don't see any fault.

Especially if that lady had a turn sigal on, in the left turn only lane, and went straight through the intersection...AND wasn't wearing a seatbelt.

[Officer Perry] braked for four seconds prior to entering the intersection where she believed that all traffic had stopped. Her speed just prior to impact was agreed to be between 38 and 44 MPH. The dash camera shows traffic on both sides of the intersection was stopped. She was in the middle lane. She attempted to sound her siren by feel before she entered the intersection, but the switches on the panel her car was equipped with were partially blocked by an armrest and she could not take her eyes off of the roadway.

Ms. McIntosh was in the left turn only lane, in the roadway facing Officer Perry, and to her left. Her turn signal was on. Ms. McIntosh did not turn left, but sped straight across the intersection. Her speed at impact was estimated at 26 MPH. This speed was achieved from a dead stop to halfway through the intersection in a Toyota Corolla. She was not wearing her seat belt.

Almost as effective as a fire extinguisher.
Thanks for posting that ElFenix.

It that is all true, that's pretty much the end of this thread.

A few years back in Mesa, AZ, a guy I went to school with was killed by a cop running a intersection w/o lights or sirens. A red light camera caught the cops pic just before he tboned and killed the guy. I believe the cop ended up losing his job, but never faced criminal charges in the accident.

I see this every day. If the turn lane is empty, people will use it to pass the cars in the other lanes. Her rapid acceleration points to that as well. They get in the turn lane and when the light turns green the floor it and slide over. She was probably too focused on doing that to notice the flashing lights (which the other drivers apparently noticed).

Let me guess....you're lawyer scum?

I do not mean that all lawyers are like that. Just most.

Then why the hell are you talking?

Please pretend to be stuck in a box.

She must have had her lights running because cars were definitely getting out of her way. Around here, lights or sirens + transponders cause traffic signals to go red all ways, with ample time ahead. So if that's the case, then wouldn't it mean the departed was running the red light too?

And yeah, after reading El Fenix's post, I gotta side with the judge.

If they're moving quickly then they should definitely have to have the sirens on.

The problem is that then people complain (and loudly) that they are being disturbed by the lights and sirens.

After reading this, I'm siding with the cop.

 I'm not talking, I'm typing. As to why, it's because people like you who make sweeping and derogatory generalizations about groups which include hundreds of thousands of people need to be put in your place.

You should try reading the whole thread before you post, it might help you look like less of an idiot.

Even though it was the other drivers fault, it's still a sad story.

I did. I consider the cop guilty regardless of the no-siren law.

Now, don't be so hasty. We haven't heard from jpeyton yet... 😛
