They don't know for sure. The news said the fire started after they shot in tear gas so that could have started the fire or he could have started it. Also the news said that there was one shot heard from the cabin when the fire started. Nothing is certain right now.

They reported a single gun shot was heard right after the fire started, I figured he shot himself right after I heard the report.
