"Cop Killer handgun" found in New York

Hot off the press: I got this in response to an email I sent to the DA that quoted the stats in the OP's article. I didn't figure I'd get a response at all.

Dear Mr. <My Last Name>:

The statistical information re: police officers killed in the line of duty that was mentioned in the press release contained a verbal miscommunication between the NYPD and the prosecutor on the case. The sentence should have read "... 425 were killed with a handgun," not "with this handgun." The sentence has been pulled from the release.

Thank you for bringing the matter to our attention

The Article Refects the miscommunication as well

I honestly expected no response from them at all. They "miscommunicated"....at least they didn't resond with "I know they're wrong, but we fabricate stuff all the time, this is no different."

If someone shot me with one of those, and I found out about it, I would be pissed.

Gotta love an $800 .22 magnum.

Yeah it's an expensive piece for sure. More like a .25 mag though, just to be overly technical.

Umm... ok. How about guy who writes press releases for the DA's office owned by the English language?

Now what's surprising is the number of NYPD officers killed with weapons other than handguns.

I just now got to read the full article that was reprinted. They even brought up the points I had about the ATF and the SS196 ammunition that is now being sold. They still say some bad stuff about the handgun, but nothing that isn't true with the SS190 or SS192 ammunition. So I'm guess I can be happy with that. They mentioned the availability issue as well, so that's pretty sweet.

I'm stoked about getting a response to the email, and a rerun of the story with correct info. I still think the "425 of 616 killed" wasn't a miscommunication, if it was it was one hell of a typo, that is, if it was supposed to say "425 have been killed with handguns." It's just not a believable typo really, but it is a completely false statment, as the OP suspected.

I tell you what, you take a .25 mag and I'll take a five-seven. We each get one shot. Guess who's going to be hurt worse.

The 5.7x28mm was designed to kill people. I promise you that it doesn't fail in that regard. It's going much faster than a .22 or .25 magnum. It is fairly lethal.

That being said, I considered buying one, but it's not worth $800.

I can hit a target smaller than the human head at 50... i dont see why I couldn't hit a human at 100. But 300...damn that's far.

We were both refering to the bullet size I believe, or at least I was. 5.7mm is about the diameter of .25 caliber I believe. Consider that 5.56mm is .223.

Yes I would like my odds with a 5.7 vs a .22 mag or a .25 (does a .25 mag even exist? I don't think I've ever seen one if it does.)
