Cop giving people visual/audible warning on the highway?

NFS4

No Lifer
Well, this is a first for me...they normally just pull me over 😉

Anyway, I was on I-40 on my way home and I was driving behind an old Grand Marquis with regular NC license plates. He's doing about 65 in a 65 so I pull over to the left and start to pass him doing about 67-68MPH. I start inching up beside him and the mofo does the little **whoop whoop** with his siren, then looks over at me and pushes his palm forward motioning me to slow down.

After I pulled my stomach out of my throat from fear, I'm thinking "WTF, I'm not even going that fast" yet the other part of me was thanking him for not pulling me over.

So I backed off a bit and let him mosey on down the road doing 65MPH. Interestingly enough, a Ford Focus comes jetting by us both doing about 75 MPH. I start grinning to myself saying, "I know he'll get that little f*&ker." But to my amazement, the cop does the little **whoop whoop** sound and pulls up beside the car and motions something to him and keeps on going.

Either he got some while he was on duty or Krispy Kreme was giving away free doughnuts today 😛

Probably some old geezer getting his kicks by fvcking with people.
92-93??

No, it was a cop. Because I saw his badge on his shoulder as I was inching past him. That's why I was like WTF b/c it wasn't like I was shooting past him like the dude in the Focus

Coulda been a fake.

A 10 year-old car???

I have had it happen to me before in IL.

You were inching past him. A matter of a few miles per hour. He couldnt pull you over for that.... or at least most wouldnt waste their time..... but he could scare the crap out of you 🙂.

I thought it was funny when we did it. Inched up past him, he flips his lights and siren for a second and smiles over at us. We slow down and get ready to change underwear.

Doubt it was a fake. He had a badge too.

Another scenario was when my friend who is a volunteer firefighter got to borrow an unmarked police car for a trip upstate to take some more firefighter training or something.

They flashed their lights, etc, and generally screwed around with people. If there was no badge I would bet it was something similar.

I've never been given a break by the police.

Well, I guess this might count as being given a break. I got a warning from a state trooper for doing 73 in a 70. 🙂

Yeah, I was definitely about to take a serious dump when I heard that siren. I haven't gotten a ticket in 5 years so I was like, SH!T, NOT NOW!!

Cops often don't have jurisdiction on state highways. It's sheriff, state troopers, or highway patrol in most cases.

However, cops CAN encourage you to slow down by doing the above. It's happened to me in LA a couple times. Once a cop was 3 lanes over and "whooped" me while pointing a spotlight in my face and saying "YOU IN THE RED TRUCK. SLOW DOWN." I freaked out.

Twice I've not had my seatbelt on and the first time the cop just leaned out his window and told me to put it on. Second time the cop just pulled on his own seatbelt and pointed to it. It was nice of them since it's a $100 ticket now.

another possibility is that he was off duty at the time and on his way home.

I had a cop pull up next to me and give me a naughty naughty finger shake and then go speeding by. To this day I don't know why. I wasn't speeding and his lights weren't on.

I get warned like that more often than not.

Police dept will keep any car that is still able to do the job no matter how old it is. That is their choice. Just last year I saw an out of town cop car that was a 1987 Crown Vic. Before that I saw Dodge Dippys all the time.

I still have not been pulled over in my 1987 Crown Vic. 😀

That is cool and all by my story is better. When I was 18 I was driving back from a Racing event in Atlanta and was hauling ass. I was doing about 110-120 on the highway and blew by a cop. He caught up with me, gave me a hand motion to slow down and then gave me a thumbs up. After that he nailed the gas and got off at the next exit.

Pretty cool guy since the limit was about 60.

That's not a cool cop, that's a dumbass cop. Maybe it was cool for you to get out of going to jail, but he was a fuggin' dumbass for not busting your ass

True, but sometimes that can have a better effect depending on the person. If you get fined for it, you'll be pissed and may rebel, if they let you go and you understand your mistake, you might not do it again because you know the cops cooperate.
