Really, do cops have any common sense at all?

http://www.dailykos.com/story/2015/...gressive-arrest-while-man-s-wife-as-in-labor#

Video:
http://www.nwitimes.com/news/local/...cle_201561ff-6c00-56c6-9f4b-b4521eb09ba7.html

Husband is driving his wife, who is in active labor, to the hospital. Cops try to pull him over for speeding.

Cops come up points guns at him, throw him to the ground, handcuff him, and point their guns at the pregnant wife who is screaming that she is giving birth and needs to go to the hospital.

They also threaten to tase him after handcuffing him on the ground, while the man pleads with them to take his wife to the hospital.

Finally, after 7 minutes, the cops called an ambulance to take the wife to the hospital, but arrested the husband anyway, so he wouldn't be present for his child's birth.

The baby would have died if they had given birth at the side of the road:

Dana Reiner gave birth to daughter Abigail within minutes of arriving at the hospital in Crown Point, though her doctor paused the delivery twice to turn Abigail and unwrap her umbilical cord from around her neck. Dana Reiner said the doctor told her that her baby would have died had she given birth on the side of the road.

Cops almost killed an innocent baby because of their screwing around with an innocent couple.

Cops also lied about the chase, saying it was 5 miles, despite dashcam showing it was only 1 mile. Judge threw out all the charges, saying it wasn't a legal stop.

"The court does not think a reasonable officer, after realizing (as Officers Dandurand and Thomas did soon after handcuffing James) that plaintiffs were en route to the hospital to have their baby, would have continued to detain them, much less have kept James under arrest and taken him to jail for the night. To the contrary: such conduct, at that point, violates the clearly established guarantees of the Fourth Amendment," Magistrate Judge Paul Cherry wrote.

BUT.....all the cops got away with this with no punishment, and are still cops. The Chief says the one cop is a "model officer". LOL

Of course, the husband, despite having the bullshit charges dropped, still has the arrest on his record for some reason.

Good to see cops still going out of their way to screw innocent civilians over.

No common sense. No common decency. Authoritarian rampage at its finest, all because of their ego. Not fit for duty. Fuck that police chief and anyone who stopped them from being fired.

it's sad when people in authority simply can't use common sense. reminds me of the time i was arrested in the airport for having a switch blade in the junk pocket of my book bag.

I'm surprised they didnt shoot or at least taze the mom. She obviously is carrying something dangerous in her belly. "Maybe its a bomb? Shoot first, ask questions later." You just wait. Because that level of stupidity is where this trajectory is heading.

Were these people doing 5 miles over the limit or 30?

Why did he wait so long to go the hospital? Most people go when labor starts, not minutes before the baby is ready to pop out.

When is it acceptable for someone to put the lives of all the other drivers on the road at risk and face no consequences?

Why did the cops feel the need to lie about the events?

There are no innocent parties here, as usual. Everyone is self serving.

Are you stupid? Is that your problem? Where did you get this insane idea in your head that they waited to go to the hospital?

However, the magistrate judge did allow several of the Reiners’ federal and state law claims, including illegal seizure of person, excessive force, false arrest, assault, battery and false imprisonment, to remain to the extent they alleged wrongdoing after the officers knew Dana Reiner was in labor.

And the cops were never prosecuted.

"Honey, I know you're in pain, and I know the life of our child is in the balance, but the speed limit is the speed limit," is a conversation I hope you have one day.

Pretty sure in that situation the conversation with my wife would be "Honey, I know you're in pain, and I know the life of our child is in the balance, so I'm calling an ambulance instead of trying to drive you to the hospital myself."

And now I await the accusations that I support everything the police did because of that thought.

To Bober things always happen in a way that fit his viewpoint and never vary. Therefore if things appear different than his viewpoint, they were wrong and he has no sympathy. He's a human that lacks basic empathy, that is his actual problem.

What a couple of morons. It's not like the guy was driving recklessly and weaving in and out of traffic. There was nobody around and he was speeding. A quick check to ensure the truth was being told and the cops should have escorted the guy to the hospital.

THIS is another good example of police abusing their authority and getting away with it. The thread from the other day was not. The cops here should be severely punished and the community needs to be putting pressure on the politicians to do so.

Man was not speeding. Man was not driving recklessly. Man was just driving a "hoopty" at night and the cops thought they were going to be pulling over some gang bangers instead of a man and his wife he was driving to the hospital. They tried to cover up their fuck up by doubling down on it.

Five over thirty? If I was driving to the hospital it would be forty over thirty. Serve and protect, where art thou?

Oh wait. It was not a stop for speeding, it was driving an older car (Lincohn Town Car) out of the hood. Have I got that right, not much info in the sourse.

It is more than that. It is example of cops having no common sense, no common decency and utterly not caring about the citizenry. These two cops have no business retaining jobs in law enforcement. The fact that they do reflects an untter failure in the system.
