CoolMax 750 for $59 @NE

The BFG LS550 for $60AR is a much better PSU for the price. It is more efficient and much better quality.
 
After really looking for a CoolMax reviews and checking prices I now think..

There is no deal like this by any other maker or even close to it..
It seems only thier 1000v and 1300w units are rated for SLI @ the SLI site 🙁

So I am guessing you get what you pay for 🙁
If you want a CoolMax 80+ the 380W cost the same as the 700 🙂

I looking to get a bigger PSU like 600-800w for cheap and was hoping this was the unit..


I thinking about running crossfire..
Right now I think I have enough watts to run dual 4830s but would really be pushing my luck with 4850s

Looks like to use 4850s the watts they use really take a big jump compared to 4830s and wish I did more home work before I bought the PSU I have..

I just wish BFG made a 650 or 750 for $80 🙂

1) Anandtech's PSU review apparently doesn't agree with HardOCP or jonnyguru.com because both of those sites recommend the TX750...
2)The Corsair TX650 IS NOT the TX750...it is made by a completely different OEM
3)Saying Rosewill looks good and Cosair looks bad is just laughable.

There are a few Rosewills that are decent, but not are of the quality of the Corsairs..or the Antec Earthwatts.

JonnyGuru has reviewed 3 Rosewill PSUs - RP500, RX750/850, and found them much better than decent. I guess Rosewill has used so many oems that it can be hard to tell which are the good ones.

I've used at least 20 Rosewill PSU's over the years, and all of them are still in service, AFAIK. The majority were in low-end systems, though, so low-stress. An RP550 and 2 RX750's are powering gaming systems (SLI) flawlessly for over a year.

AT never actually said that the Corsair TX750 was bad, they just thought there were other PSU's that were better.

Over the years, I've had 2 Antecs die, out of maybe 6 or 7 used. My g/f's Antec Earthwatts 500w can't even power a Phenom 125w, while my OCZ 500w can. HOOfan1 has suggested to me that this particular Antec is an under-performing unit.

The one Coolmax 500w I used a few years ago blew, and took the mobo and CPU with it.

What does all this prove? Nothing. 😛

All of them good for their price. All of them are group regulated though. The TX750 does have the flaw of high ripple, but its voltage regulation is better than the Rosewill RX750.

Paul Johnson tested the RP500-2 in a roundup of 4 PSUs and declared it the worst one of the bunch. One reason was that it failed the Transient load test, which jonnyguru.com was not doing at the time they reviewed the RP500-2

I wasn't saying Rosewills are all bad, but rarebare was saying he thinks Rosewill shows more promise than Corsair...I find that laughable. None of the Corsair units are pieces of junk...there are plenty of Rosewills that are though.

As for your girlfriend's Antec, perhaps her unit is faulty, until you at least try another Earthwatts unit, it is rather presumptuous to claim the whole line is crap....especially when all the sites who doo 100% load test on them give them glowing reviews.

Even the Antec Signature or PC P&C Turbo-Cool line (two of the best consumer PSUs available) have some units that fail.

There certainly have been poor performing Antecs in the past though....Truepower 2.0 Smartpower...those had junkcapacitors.

In the end I am going on and on and possibly unfairly running down Rosewill to say that doubting the Corsair TX650 based on the Anandtech review of the TX750 is silly.
 
I guess my overall point (if I had one) was that many brands have winners and losers.

Rosewill, IMO, is a name that is attached to some very good products from a value perspective. What happens is that there are so many bad "Rosewill" products that many enthusiasts don't even consider them. I'm sure the reason that Rosewill PSU's have worked so well for me is that they are in PC's that draw less than 150w from the wall. The "good" Rosewill's are in the more demanding systems.

I've used some Tagan and FSP units over the years and have been happy with them.

I never said that the whole line of Antec Earthwatts was crap - in fact, I noted that you had said previously that the particular unit in question was probably an underperfomer. And now that you mention it, I think it was a couple of Truepower units that crapped out on me.

I have an old Deer 200w (IIRC) powering a 566mhz Celeron system... that thing's so ancient, it seems. The Celly gets lent out on occasion while I'm working on someone's PC.
 
Now see Deer those are pretty much all crap without exception. If you tried pulling the claimed wattage from that unit I bet it would have blown.

My point wasn't to run down Rosewill though, it was to say that rarebare's concerns about the Corsair TX650 are unfounded.

Obviously I chose a poor choice to make that point by making fun of Rosewill because a few of their units truly are decent.
 
I'll say it here instead of continuing to the topic where I was called a troll in hot deals.

I don't care if it was just a bad batch of PSU's from rosewill, even though it looks like people had problems with sparks and fire for about 6 months.. maybe a few batches. Why would I or anyone buy a mid range 80 dollar PSU from them again when you can get a similar wattage corsair or antec for almost the same price? Its not like we are buying curtains here; there should be 0 risk of freakin sparks. Most of better known brands have hundreds of reviews with a few doa units or ones that went bad after a few months but there were no bad batches of dangerous PSU's. This is like people continuing to buy pintos because they are good values despite the fact that they might blow up in a fender bender.

I'm sure its a lot easier to make a crappy PSU that will power 100 watts just fine, but if you need a 600W+ PSU then the rest of you system probably costs some money. Spend the extra 50 bucks (or in this case, 10) and get a decent unit.

Just my opinion of course.

All in all I am considering buy a Corsair TX850w @$120 with rebate it looks pretty good but I need to read more about line noise as see how bad that really is. and if I should spend an extra $50 to get a better quality PSU or not.......

I read that CWT makes Corsair as well as XIGMATEK and Thermaltake
 
Ok so...Katzer said compared to other Corsair units the TX750 wasn't up to snuff. Meaning that he thinks other Corsair units are better....so what makes you doubt the Corsair TX650 because of that review.

In the end, if you want a 650W plus unit for $80, you aren't exactly going to be buying something that is a top notch performer in every single category (efficiency, Voltage regulation, ripple suppression).

The Earthwatts 650W I linked you to for $80 is pretty much as close as you can get to a top notch performer at that price. If you don't mind rebates (which I do) then the Corsair TX650 at $70 after rebate is another one that is as close to top notch as you will get for that price.

I would just like to suggest that you branch out beyond Anandtech for your PSU reviews.

How do you know who makes what PSU? Is there an online resource for this, or do you know by opening one up and looking at the layout, parts used, etc?

I read a lot of Power Supply reviews.
The really good reviewers tell you exactly who makes them, and they can tell by several methods.
1) The UL number (although this isn't always possible as sometimes the seller and not the manufacturer have their own UL number on it and sometimes the wrong UL number is attributed to a unit)
2)Recognizing the internal layout of the power supply
3)Sometimes the OEM is silkscreene onto the PCB or there is an identifier on the main transformer. Such as TOP for Topower or CWT for CWT.

Also Corsair reps like Redbeard and Yellowbeard are pretty darn forthcoming with information. They have actually confirmed who the OEMs are and they actually admitted the HX520 and HX620 are single 12V rail as opposed to what the labels state.

I am far from an electrical engineer so I am only half-assed at determining the OEM by just looking at the internals of a PSU. I can recognize the big guys like Seasonic, Enhance, Topower and CWT most of the time, but I can't recognize some of the oddball guys.

HardOCP actually did a review of a Coolermaster Case/PSU combo from Coolermaster...of course it was a Premium Case (Stacker 830) and a Premium Power Supply (Real Power Pro 1000W) that is about a $380 combo. Antec packages some of their cases with the Earthwatts series of PSUs which are pretty good for the price.
