Cooling Problems

Hello..

I just built a system with a P4 2.66 @ 2.84 and am using a Swiftech MCX4000 w/ a Thermaltake Smart Fan II and my temps are very high..I am idling at 40 degrees and it rises to around 50+ under loads..I know this is under the thresh hold for the chip but for a 50 heatsink I believe I should get it working correctly..I reapplied the Arctic Silver 3 that im using tonight and my temps did not decrease at all.. Also, My fan rpms are slowly day by day decreasing and i don't know why..its gone from 5800 rpms earlier today to 4650 right now..

Thanks..

thoes temps arnt all that bad. and you have to wait 2-3 days for teh AS3 to set up before it starts workin at 100%.

also what kind of case cooling do you have? that could also be a problim

Case cooling shouldnt be a problem.. I have a Warrior SS from Xoxide.com ..2 80mm intake fans..two 80mm side intakes.. 1 80mm exhaust..1 120mm blowhole exhaust.. case temps are at 25 degrees

reason your fan RPMs are decreasing is cause of teh smart fan. it sences how hot things are and spins accordingly. wait for teh AS3 to set up and see what your temps are. i really wouldent be worried about them if i were you

Also, don't plug the fan directly into the motherboard. Power it from the power supply's wiring harness. At max output, it draws more amperage than three normal case fans put together, and is liable to blow out your fan header.
