I have a 1.4 athlon 266 and I'm building it as we speak. I was wondering if I overclock, is it safe to use the regular heatsink/fan and if not, what should i buy (paste, fans, ect.)

Ur stock HSF will be able to take a slightly O/Ced system say up to 1.5 Ghz. But beyong tht, u will need a better cooling. The pad tht comes w/ the HSF is fine but of course the grease (like ASII) is better.

Watch closely ur temp. Take the temp at rated speed. Up the clock & watch the temp again. Back off if its to hot. I personal preference is less than 65C for the CPU if case temp at 40C & ambient temp at 30C.

yeah, stock HSF is fine for no o/c'ing. but if you're gonna boost your speed, you should seriously look into aftermarket HSF's. anandtech.com just happens to have a "socket a cooler roundup" that you shoul check out to find the best HSF. and , of course, you should get some arctic silver II for the thermal grease. if you want my $.02, i would go with a thermalright SK6 HSF with a delta fan
