I bought a Mini Superorb for the cooling of my new cpu. I've been hearing horror storys of people cracking their chips attaching their super orbs. Is this true? If so what fan do you boys and girls recommend for me? How do i go about applying this thermal grease and is it really benificial?

I hope you don't mean thermal grease and not thermal compound. Thermal grease will dry out and cause your cpu to overheat. Thermal compound will not dry out.

Anandtech Socket A and Socket 370 round up.

You can see what is good and what isn't. general the superorbs/miniorbs don't cool all that great. IMHO, it is ok cooling. I rather have an alpha, thermal engine, or global win.

Has for placing the HSF on, you want to do it with the motherbaord outside the case on a flat surface. Place HSF properly over the CPU. Clip in one side first and be sure not to rock the HSF. This is where the danger of cracking your CPU can happen. Then carefully with a screw driver, place the flat end on the other clip which should have a notch to place screw driver in and apply enough pressure to lower the clip and slide it into place. Just take your time and be careful.

I'm about to pick up an Alpha PAL6035 w/ Delta fan for my system that is slowly being built (TBird 1.2Ghz), yeah I know it's loud, but not as loud as the FOP 38. If you don't like loud noise, go with the Alpha PAL6035 w/ Y.S Tech fan, it performs within a few degrees of the delta fan.
