Cooling help

Hi,

Got a question about how cool an Athlon 900 should run. I have an Antec SX1030B with 3 fans right now. I have 2 in back and 1 in front. My Athlon is running at about 42C to 43C right now. If I add another fan in the fun, how much cooler can I get my Athlon 900 down to? What is the norm Athlon temperature? When I first started with this it was running about 150F, I'm kind of happy on what I got it down to but just wondering how much cooler can I the temperature down...

Thanks
Mad

well in my experiences, i had Durons and athlons that werent overclocked around 38-45c under load, this is the temp according to asus probe and there are some issues with its acuracy, and also used good HSF
you should always try to put as many intakes as you have exhausts.
so it seems you temp is fine, no need to cut holes in your case yet

Thanks Nickburn. I was hoping that would be sufficient. I will pick up 1 more fan. I have the standard Antec fan in there. Does those quiet fan really work? Are they quieter and keep the system cooler?

Add the extra fan I have the SX830 and have fans in all 4 slots. My internal case temp is the same as ambeint room temp and that has caused my CPU to run a few degrees cooler gotta love these Antec cases!

I have two 80mm sunon High outputs in the front of my case, a 92mm blowing air out the back and top, and am running an ALPHA PAL6035 on my T-Bird 700. My load temp is 40c according to ASUS probe. Before adding the fans it was around 48c.

I listened to Mikewarrior and he helped me get my stuff straight.

Still not enuf fans for my liking more on the way 😀

This is really weird. I now have 4 fans in my Antec SX1030B case. The temperature is reading 109 to 113. Went I have only 3 it was cooler around 105 to 109. I touch the heat sink and the heat sink is not even hot. So, I don't know if I should worry about it? Any advice Mike?

I would check to make sure the heat sink is sitting flush on the CPU. Did you use any themal compund? Have you been in the case and maybe bumped the heat sink so now it is not making good contact?

nope I haven't been near the heatsink or the cpu. I touch the heat sink and is not hot. I think the temperature reading is off from my suspicion. The computer never locked up or anything so I'm kind of satisfy with the way my computer is running. I havent put any thermal compound like silver artic. I may do that...

Thanks
Mad

remember that 42-43C isn't very hot for a t-bird, irregardless of waht you read on BBSs(different bios and diferent mb's read different, for example, some MB's will read a 1ghz 1.8V T-bird at 34C).
