I have a thunderbird 1 ghz with a chrome orb fan. What kind of case fan would you recommend for my enlight 7237 case or would none be good enough? Should I also get a cooler for my 45 gb IBM hd? What kind do you recommend for that?

Case fans are always a must with anything in my opinion. I don't know the exact specs for fans in your particular case, but I would assume it to be an 80mm intake. Check out this place for some nice Panaflo fans. They are available with 4 pin molex or 3 pin mobo powerplugs. The Panaflo fans are considered by most, including myself, to be the best on the market. I would recommend using a 4 pin molex for the power, since fans can sometimes draw too much current from a mobo, frying the power traces for that header.
HD coolers are never a bad idea. If your drive is 7200rpm, then you probably should, though no manufacturer specs a fan for any of their 7200rpm drives. If you want one, check out this place.

Your case should take any 80mm case fan and it would be good to have one in the rear. That will keep the power supply fan from short-circuiting the airflow through the vacant fan hole, and keep the hot exhaust from the CPU moving out the rear. In fact, AMD considers an auxiliary rear fan to be important and includes it in their configuration recommendations.

If noise is an issue, pick something with a rating of perhaps 30dB or less. If you want more airflow, there are some high-output 80mm fans that move 40cfm or more but they will be noisy.

I have 4 Dynaeon 80mm fans in my case. They aren't the quietest ones around but they are effective.

Don't worry about the hd. I'm assuming you got one of the 75GXPs, which are among the quietest and coolest 7200rpm drives out there (if not the most so). Not that a cooler wouldn't hurt, but I really doubt you need one if you have decent case cooling.
