i am gonna be ordering a t bird 900 soon retail. i was wondering if the heatsink/fan that comes with it is any good? some of my friends said to get a better fan and heatsink . the ones at 2cooltek look good. also . i have an antec case. that has 2 fan mounts so i could do like 2 80 or 90 mm fans or whatever works best. its probably not the best case but i think it will do

Well from the reviews I've read I desided to go with the Alpha Pal 6035. If you don't plan on over clocking then you don't need a better HSF then the one you get with the system.

if you aren't overclocking then the stock fan(the one that comes with it) will be just fine :)

I have tried the following with that chip:

1. Stock AMD approved HSF (approx 47 C)
2. Vantec HSF (approx 43 C)
3. Socket A Chrome Orb (approx 43 C)
4. Global Win FOP38 (approx 40 C) - sounded like an airplane, so I got rid of it....
5. Alpha 6035 w/ sunon fan (approx 43 C)
6. Scoket A Super Orb (approx 37 C)

I have found that the super orb is the most effective. I have an officemate however, that has a chrome orb on a tbird 800 runningat like 32 C. So it will vary.

I was suprised at the ineffectiveness of the Alpha compared to others. Everyone speaks very highly of this cooler, and I was not very impressed.

The super orb was my most effective solution. It is also about $10 chaper than the Aplha.

Good Luck to you.

I thought something was wack too when he gave me those numbers. But then I was over there one night watching MNF and I saw it myself.

We are both using the Asus A7v with BIOS 1004. Go figure, I thoought the Alpha would be better than the rest too.

If you have an older clip, the alpha pal6035 does not provide neither the necessary nor recommended clip pressure for socket A chips. Which hurts its performance on socket A uses, significantly.

Also, there is yet antoher reason why you can't compare socket A temps. THey are far too inaccurate. Even a screwed up clip alpha would perform a few C higher than a C-orb, but due to where Socket A boards measure cpu temp, they don't register this change in CPU Core temp.

REad this thread for more info on why Socket A heatsink comparison's don't/can't work, and why the accuracy just plain stinks.

SeVeRaNCE,

The stock heatsink should be a Taisol CEK733092, which is a very decent heatsink, and should allow for quite a bit of overclocking headroom.

ctowle,

Also, the default 900mhz t-bird heatsink should be the taisol unit, and it should easily outperform the c-orb. Did yours come with a coolermaster heatsink?
