cooling for a 9800pro

I just picked up an ATI 9800pro and i want to start overclocking it but i'm not sure if the stock heatsink will do the job. Is there a particular alternative that stands out above the crowd?

Giant III is the best choice with the dual heatpipe technology. It is silent if you want to and the blower is useless, just don't put it.

VGA Silencer is great - it's cheap and will offer a bit extra if you are looking for that extra 10-15mhz boost. Ask people around on forums how much their overclocks have improved and I am sure they will be glad to share the results.

I've got the Zalman and the VGA silencer, both are great products. The silencer however is less expensive and easier to install and is extremely quiet. It also has the advantage of lowering your case temps by exhausting your vid cards heat right out of the case. My 9800Pro o/c'd to XT speeds easily with stock cooling, now I have it @ 422/743 with the silencer, and could probably go higher.

another vote for the silencer, I love it! I don't overclock, I use it for the cooler temps and slightly cooler case temps, I made a plastic shim to force the air outside rather than that gap between the heatsink and the back bracket, great design though...

I'm gonna be the oddball, and say a 1U socketA cooler will be the best. drill and tap it, lap it, and slap it on with some AS.

I can run my 9800 pro at 450/340 (damn infineon) with the vga silencer rev. 2. With stock it did 410/330

The ram wouldn't run stock? are boards with infineon chips clocked slower? I thought all 9800P's were 340 memory...

using vga silencer on both my 9700p & 9800p. great product.

vga silencer will drop your case temps about 3 degrees or more and basically cut your gpu temps in half. also, buy two packs of ocz ramsinks and slap them on the 8 ram slots. the vga silencer will still fit without a problem, and now the infamous ati ram can be clocked a little higher, without incinerating...

I've already pushed my 9800 pro to XT speeds. I'd like to push the memory speed up but how can I tell when I've pushed too far?

Use an artifact tester. Either in the omega drivers or ATI Tool. or slowly increase, go play a game, increase, play, play increase, play play play

I'm using something called RadMax (or something like that) to overclock my radeon. What do you recommend using?
