Cooling down Radeon HD4850? It's hitting 104 degrees Celsius

I just installed Supreme Commander 2, and on my first game, and it wasn't even a big map, but the Asus HD4850 shut the game down. Then I checked info, it was running up to 104 Celsius, that's enough to boil water. I'm surprised it's that hot, and the fan was going full blast but apparently it wasn't enough. I never had that issue with Sup Comm or other games, so I'm surprised that some how SupCom 2 is burning up the card.

Is anyway to cool the card? I'm thinking of putting 80mm fan on it, as the small thin fans apparently wasn't doing enough. Then again, it's really just SupCom2 that's heating it up, other games are working just fine.

is it the reference asus or the egg cooler model? I have two of the egg cooler models on a htpc and they need lots of airflow or they cook....

Either clean out your cooler, re-apply some new thermal grease or see if perhaps that game has a bug.

Star Craft II had an issue wherein frame rates would shoot through the roof and send temps out of control on a lot of cards.

My single slot saphire 4850 was doing that too, the small air holes in the copper pipes were plugged with dust. I blew it out and it was fine.

It is the singe slot. I think that may be the issue. Has anyone put a regular 80mm fan on their GPU? Makes me think that it just needs a bigger fan.

Grab the Arctic cooling passive GPU cooler, you can cool the surface of the Sun with that thing and a 120mm case fan.

Ok, I blew out the little areas of the cooling area. It had some dust, did not seem much, but it sure made the difference. Now the card hits 81c on 100% load. It's working good again.
