The E772 monitor is Dell's "value" shadow mask CRT. It's OK as a basic CRT monitor.

yes. i have one sitting right here (bro-in-law's). it's basically a normal computer, nothing special. you can add components, swap them out, etc. the only thing that dell can control is use of their disc. i've wiped about 7 dell machines clean of the bloated crap they give you. put my own OS on there. laptops, 4550, 8250. if you've got your own OS, go for it. they are all intel chipsets anyway, just get the newest INF's from intel, and drivers from the dell driver disk if you need them, or from their site.

The only problem I've had with my 4550 is that I can't find the Win2k USB2 drivers. Intel says to use Windows Update... Windows Update doesn't have them. The drivers on Intel's website don't work either. :/ Oh well, I don't use USB2 anyway :p

what is the radeon video card that you can get

New 128mb DDR ATI Radeon? 9700 TX Graphics Card with TV-Out and DVI [add $140 or $4/month1]

I am guessing it is worse than a 9700 Pro. How does it compare to the rest of the line?

What was your ship date just out of curiousity. Mine's May 1, and it's still in production. Step 3a is gray.

I installed XP home on a different hard drive, on a different rig.
Installed with no problems, however I did not activate it.

I activated it on other pc without any problem.

I got the free isp on another computer I bought from Dell. They're giving you 6 months for free. It doesn't matter which computer you use it on.

You do have to sign up using a credit card. If you don't want to keep it after 6 mths you'll have to remember to cancel it.

I would just want to add to this. All AOL / Earthlink would need is your PC's Serial Number or something... then you can use that user ID from anywhere you want.

I ordered mine on 4/24 and shipped on 4/25. Does Dell send you tracking numbers?

Mine also shipped... Dell is sending mine to a 'Carrier' and when it reaches Carrier's place, the Carrier then sends the tracking number to Dell

I don't know about AOL, but Earthlink does not require serial number. Earthlink installation cd came with the pc. Just install it from the cd. Actually I am using free Earthlink ISP now.

So, if I have 2 new PCs, can I use first ISP for 6 months and the 2nd for next 6 months ? And I would assume that with Earthlink you have to create a new account, right ?

NO. the free 6 months of isp service must be activitated within a month or so after the purchase. i have not made an attempt to activate it beyond that timeframe
