Friend of mine is selling me one of these for about 1/4th of the retail cost along with a mobo and 1gb of corsair RAM. So...I'm building a new comp. that i dont really need since I already have a 64, 3200 with 1gb of geil ram and an x800 XT PE agp. Anyway, I am wondering what the best cooling method would be for this computer. I have pretty much decided that I am going to buy the Silverstone TJ05 case. I would rather not go with a watercooled system since I have never set one up before unless there is a kit or something that is just exceptionally easy to install and setup and works great. A nice heatsink and fan is probably what I am after to cool this thing. Any suggestions?

Thx in advance.

Get the a zalman cooler for that socket type and dont oc.....

Actually I believe this chip is based on the galatin core, right??? If that is the case I agree the sp94 should be fine and this chip should run OK for temps....

I used an SP94 with a low speed 80mm fan it my 3.4EE stayed suprisingly cool and the system was quiet. A 92mm would have been better. There is an article at Madshrimps about 2-3 months old that tests many of the newest P4 coolers. Check it out.

"Thermalright XP's are the best air coolers."

I think this is what Dell uses, or something very similar in their XPS systems with a "wind" tunnel. It works very well. My PC runs very quiet even when ambient temp is in the 80s F and I'm playing Far Cry or HL2 or encoding video. No slow downs or throttling, that I'm aware of.

thanks for the replies. my friend is a writer for a well known computer magazine and so gets all kinds of comp. hardware, and pc and console games to check out and review. its pretty crazy the stuff he has. he gets all this hardware and he has to dispose of it somehow. needless to say, its great having him as a friend :)

Zalman 7000CU, Thermalright XP-90, or XP-120 would all be excelent choices, although even the mighty XP-120 wasn't enough for my 3.4ghz prescott, but the 3.4EE is based off of the Galatin core, which is basicly a northwood with a lvl 3 cache, any of those will keep it plenty cool.
