I am in the same position as you in buying a new car i don't want to spend more than 15k. I think I have decided to go with a used GS-R integra or a used ford contour SVT. Both nice cars. Or a used subaru WRX with its AWD. Also that mazada mp3 might be able to get used under 15k now. Also another car is that new dodge neon high powered model i think its 17k new, but its pretty nice.

One more suggestion that nissan SE-R or Spec V model used.

Well the first two are what i am most likely to get, i wanted a cheap car with a littel bit of fun.

I was thinking maybe a used beamer or audi, but the upkeep is too much.

Yup. Best car for your money at that price, IMO.

And if it's 2 years old, you still have a 8 year warranty on it.

Have you seen the GT? It essentially looks like a Saab.

Beware of used rental cars or leased cars. People rag those out badly. My in-laws bought one for my wife and we have spent too much on repairs. Buy a quality used 1-owner or dealer show vehicle.

Yup :)

Sorry. I was in a rush. Want a "cool" sporty car with good gas milage. Still trying to figure out the next car thing. Been hunting/thinking for 6 months now. I'm getting married in July, so I might get a car in August.
If you decide to re-think buying new, I've got a great suggestion for you.

1987-1988 Porsche 924S or 1983-1991 944. In mint condition they go for a maximum of about $8,000. On the highway they get between 28 and 32 mpg with the 5-speed (do not even think about the 3-speed automatic). Though parts are more expensive than normal, they are very reliable as long as you take care of the scheduled maintenance (most important: timing belt every 30K and water pump every 60K). The 924S and 944 aren't going to bend you over with insurance either since they are 4 cylinder cars. Early 944's and 924S has 150 hp, later 944's have 168 or more though, so it's not like they are under powered. The cars have very good sheet metal which resists rust extremely well. They have a decent amount of luggage space and they are more than roomy enough for two. The "+2" seating isn't very roomy at all, but it's useful enough that in a pinch you can carry 4 people. The really great thing about the 924S and the 944 is the handling, the cars drive amazingly well.

Not a chance in hell. It's a long story but I got it over a month ago and just got it insured and registered on Wednesday. That baby is staying in my possesion for a LONG time. There aren't a lot of 1998's in that good shape with only 40K miles on it.

:D

Mwilding, is that your '67 Mustang for sale? Beautiful car.

geldrop, please explain your post regarding the 924S being "ghetto". You're not offering any basis for your opinion. Oh, and one other thing; 14-9. :p

It was for sale. Hence the "God I miss her" comment on that page. That baby hauled.

I must've missed the "God I miss her" comment. Too busy drooling over the Mustang. :)

I'll grant that it's not the prettiest car on the road (it's a darn sight better than the newest 911 though). Still, stylish or not, the 924S and 944 can run away and hide from a 911 when the road gets curvy. 911's just don't handle as easily and smoothly as a 924S or a 944, though in the hands of an expert the 911 can come close. I guess it's just me, but the way a car looks is probably the last thing I consider. I'd rather have an ugly car that can handle well than a handsome car that corners like a canoe on stilts. For the record though, I'd love to have a 911 one day (specifically a 1994 Turbo Coupe, last of the RWD Turbos), and I don't (yet) own a 924S or a 944. However, he asked for a sporty car with good gas mileage. Since the 911 doesn't get good mileage by any stretch and the 924S and 944 get nearly 30 mpg the only rational recommendation was the 924S/944.

For 15 grand, I bet you could get a nice, shiny 87 Grand National. :Q

that would be cooler and sportier than any crap you could buy new for 15 thou now.

and the old porsche's are horrid to drive, esp 5 speed

with the clutch attached to the floorboard (or whatever) it's a PITA to drive around

If the Ford Focus wasn't so recall prone then I'd recommend then but I dunno if you can get it under $15k.

My vote goes for the Nissan Sentra.

S14 240SX 5-spd. You get good mileage...really you do! Decent torque, good mileage, comfortable, wicked handling.

I like it.
