Just browsing through a few songs.. thinking of which ones have good intros... some are good, just because they're different...

ACDC - TNT
Aldo Nova - Fantasy (the latter part of the intro)
Ventures - Wipeout
Billy Squier - Lonely is the Night
Boston - Long Time
Def Leppard - Pour Some Sugar on Me
half a dozen or so GN'R intros...
Asia - Heat of the Moment
Hollies - Long Cool Woman
Kansas - Dust in the Wind
Van Halen has just as many great openings as GN'R
Triumph - Fight the Good Fight
Scorpions - No One Like You
Rush - Spirit of Radio, several others
REO Speedwagon's intros are awesome, especially live in concert.
Yes - Owner of a Lonely Heart
Tube - She's a Beauty
Alan Parson's Project - Sirius (the intro to Eye in the Sky)
Ozzy Osbourne - Crazy Train
Iron Maiden - Number of the Beast (intro past the narrative)
Billy Idol - White Wedding
A couple by Queen - Pressure, Crazy Little Thing Called Love

I'm sure I'd think of dozens more if I kept going through my music files.

More. Van Halen > GnR

And I love GnR.

Anyway, here's one:

Van Halen: Everybody Wants Some
and Hot For Teacher

Edit: don't forget Poundcake

And the ultimate: Eruption/You Really Got Me.........nothing can beat that.
The guitar solo that changed rock guitar.

If I'm not mistaken, Ventures did it first, then everyone (all the other of that genre) at the time copied it.
