No offense to anyone, but most people who call guns "cool" have never fired one. Once you do for you the first time, you have a respect for the awesome power contained in such a small package. And if you don't respect that power, something bad is bound to happen. Put simply, Toys are cool, but guns are not toys.

Now, that has to be one of the top ten dumbest things to say. Not only because they can't run a mile in under 12 minutes and with a continuous run but they think guns and killing people is cool. Sheesh, guns are only to be used when absolutely necessary. Arg...fortunately these people will probably go insane and never be allowed to own a gun (well, unless they get one at a gun show ).

Most people i know that like violent games have no interest at all being in the military..in touch with reality i guess. pain = not good

I'll agree with you on the statement about wannabes, but want to know what gun show loophole you are talking about? AFAIK dealers at gun shows have always faced the same restrictions at a gun show as they would anywhere else.

One last thing-

A vast majority of gunowners own guns for recreational purposes, never to be used in a defensive or offensive role. Seeing how small you can get your groups can be a fun, relaxing, and safe sport.

zippy, i thought snipers would get tougher training. my reasoning is they must be ranked higher than 'grunt' privates, meaning higher requirements. those kids i mentioned are the cs nuts back in my high school...

Sniper school....... I attended the course at Fort Campbell, KY in 1983. Taught by a Mr White. Former Marine Corps sniper in Vietnam. Can't recall the number of confirmed kills he had. He was a great instructor and his mentoring impacted my life.

We trained on M21s. Basically match grade M14s with scopes. Qualified out to 900-1000 meters. A female MP in my class took top honors. She hit 20 out of 20. I made it with an 18 out of 20.

Always had a spotter calling wind. It was cool seeing the vapor trails of the bullets downrange on those late spring mornings.

There were formerly three US Army schools. MTU at Fort Benning, one at Fort Bragg and one at Fort Campbell. Now there is only one, if I'm not mistaken, and it's of course at Benning.

MTU has produced Olympic champions. LTC Lones Wigger, among others.

When I first went to Germany in '83, the infantry units there were still using M1Ds (M1 Garands with scopes) for sniper rifles. Fort Benning sent a mobile training team over to instruct. The training was usually held at either Grafenw&ouml;hr or Hammelburg.

Now the US Army uses a bolt-action rifle. Modified Remington 700 I think. Still 7.62 NATO Match, A136.

The USMC has always had an outstanding marksmanship and sniper program. Their general marksmanship training is much better than US Army IMO.

Anyway, my choices for the coolest........

AR-15 Heavy Barrel Match Grade - I own one. It's sweet.
Detonics .45 pistol
Glock series
MP 44 Sturmgewehr in 7.92mm short - the Kalashnikov series was copied from this one.
Dragonov Sniper Rifle
Steyr-Mannlicher AUG
Browning Automatic Rifle - The military version used in WWII and Korea. 30.06 with a 20 round clip. I fired one once. Awesome! Gotta keep the bursts short though.
