CoolerMaster HHC-001 vs. Thermaltake Volcano 7+

Hey, I'm in the process of building a computer in which I will have an Epox 8kha+ mobo and an athlon xp 1800+. What CPU cooler should I go with, the hhc-001 or the volcano 7+?

hhc-01 🙂 Just from all the reviews ive seen, its a much better cooler

Why are you even considering those heatsinks?

The HHC-001 sounds like a 747. And the Volcano 7+ is outrageously overpriced for its performance. You should be looking at the $29 Alpha PAL8045, $29 Thermalright AX-7, or the Swiftech MCX-462A. These heatsinks are in an entirely different league. They are just about the only heatsinks on the market that will cool an Athlon XP 2000+ (and of course, a 1800+) with a low noise to silent fan like the 21dB Panaflo L1A. With a high noise fan, like you get with the HHC-001, they also provide the best overclocking potential.

Actually im considering the AX-7 myself... Just wondering who has em in stock for the cheapest.

Both the coolers you have chosen will cool well. The HHC-001 is loud and the Volcano 7+ is heavy and much quieter. The AX-7 will perform as well as either of these with a low CFM 80mm fan. I am with KenAF the AX-7 will give you more fan options and cool well and it is one you will be able to use with hotter chips down the road.

KDcomputer is supposed to have them in; in a few days. CrazyPC just ran out and Plycon is out. Looks like a popular item.

KenAF - I don't understand either how so many people can stand these intrusively loud HSF's... My roommate got an Athlon XP a couple of months ago, and the 7k rpm delta fan on there drove us both nuts. He returned the computer to the store a month or so later and got a new, much quieter HSF, thank god.

If you dislike the noise, you could replace the screamer with a lower rpm fan.
the most important part is about heatsink performance.
The heatsink has to have good heat transfer so the airflow can blow the heat away.

I would always go w/ the best heatsink possible then choose the right fan (noise vs cfm)
