I just build a brand new pc and I used the Centurion 5 case. I put in those chassic cables (for the power and reset switch, hdd light..etc) but there are 2 small cables that are marked with a "+" and a "-" respectively. What are those 2 small cables for?? Is that the power led?? The documentation as usual with most pc hardware is piss poor and doesnt say what it is. On my motherboard manual (asus a8n-e) it says the power led is suppoed to be 3 pinned so I dont think that small + and - cables are it ..are they?

Also the centurion 5 case I have has that weird looking black cone thing on the side panel that is pretty much over the cpu fan/hs. Should I take that big thing out and replace it with a case fan (80mm I assume). If so, should that fan blow air in or out the case?

Thanks in advance to those that help.

If you take the front panel off (which I'm sure you have) the +,- wires trace directly to the power led as you stated. I have this case but not my mobo yet so I'm not sure what my mobo requires. Also, by process of elimination it has to be the power led plug. I don't know which is not standard, the case or your mobo. It could also be possible that you only place these connectors on the first and second, or first and third pins avaliable for the power led on your motherboard.

As for your other question, I have the model with the side window so I can't say anything definite, but I would assume that this is the side air duct and is where the 80mm fan is supposed to be mounted.

Best of luck!

I just ordered one of those cases for a build I will be starting on. That "black cone" is a fresh intake duct, and is intended to pull cool air from outside of the case onto the cpu. It's particularly useful with Intel Prescott P4's. These ducts do work, unless the side of the box is placed too close to an obstruction of some sort. Trading the ductwork for an INTAKE fan mounted through the side panel, you about come out even on cpu temps, unless you opt for a "quiet" fan, in which case the duct probably would've cooled better, and quieter.

The biggest advantage in favor of a little extra noise from the added side panel fan is that the cooler air spreads across the adjacent areas of the system, and helps cool the ram, and in many cases, the video card, as well.

IIRC, the two + and - pins are for the power LEDs. They do not work if plugged in right next to each other on the A8N-E. You connect the + and - pins to the 1st and 3rd power LED pins on the mobo.

The manual for the A8N-E shows the diagram on page 1.31

I had the same problem and i could not get the led to light up, but then i re-read the manual and found that i was plugging in the + and - next to each other, while they ought to be one pin apart.

The CM5 is a very nice case for the money, except for the pain involved in removing the front bezel.

I can't comment on the LEDs as I don't use them for my computer. I ended up removing the air duct because it created a spot of dead air in my case because the cpu did not match up perfectly with my cpu. If you use a tall HSF you won't be able to use it either way.
