Cooler Master 690 issue

I bought a CM 690 from buy.com a few months ago and ever since I put my system into it I have had issues with drives disappearing, as I have posted in other hardware sections.

My question for this section is, is it really possible to damage a motherboard when putting it into a snug case? (yes the 690 is snug in my opinion). Most especially I am curious if anyone else here had the same issue with this case. Would a full tower be worth the money to not have to do this again? Thanks.

I would have to say it's either a hard drive problem or a motherboard problem. I've never had a drive suddenly disappear unless it was failing.

I would have to say it's probably hardware as well, and I think the CM 690 is pretty damn big. Are you sure everything works and is properly grounded?

Are you sure that your SATA cables/connections aren't being squished by the rear panel of the case? You might want to look into SATA cables with 90 degree plugs.

The case isn't a tight fit. Like others have said, it's very large for a midtower. There's plenty of space around the motherboard.

CM690 snug? Hmm...

The case brand/model aside, it's possible to damage any component if it's not handled or installed properly. I have had absolutely no issues with my CM690 and found installation was a breeze. Plenty of room for installation of the motherboard, components and a decent wiring job.

How often do your drives disappear? Have you considered assembling the system outside of the case to see if the behaviour persists? I mean, it's possible that there's a flaw in the case you received that's causing a short, but i'd look to other things first.

CM690 can be snug if you don't remove some of the 'cable management' brackets. I think I removed most of them except two.

cable management is very important.

The case can be snug, but if your smart with cable management, the case is really big.

You can see how much stuff i managed to fit inside that case.

My interior was painted incase your wondering why it looks a little different.

Now should you get a full tower, i personally like big cases, cuz i have a ton of other stuff that needs to be inside too. I watercool. :T

So its up to your tastes. I dont think you'll ever need all that space inside a full tower unless you start watercooling. Even then if your smart you can cram all that inside a CM690

😉

It's most likely a drive issue. What hard drives do you have? I have 2 old PATA drives along with the main SATA drive and the slave PATA drive doesn't show up on boot or in Bios sometimes but no problems once in Windows.
I built my friend's PC using the 690 and the only issue I saw was that the cables had to bend quite a bit to reach the hard drives so check the cables.
Aigo, is that a powder coating on the inside of that 690 or just a different color? I don't recall my friend's 690 being like that, though his was purchased over a year ago when it first came out so it could be a revision?
