Cooler backplates & Sticky pads

This seems like such a simple thing, but I've not been able to find a place to source them, so... I'm wondering if I'm just overcomplicating the issue.

In short:
Been using a Asus P8Z77-V with a new i5 3450 and the Zalman CNPS10x Optima cooler for about a month. (For the record, it's dead silent, I highly recommend it :))
Motherboard has recently seemed to die a death, and is now packed up and ready to go back for an RMA.
Naturally, this means I've had to take apart the cooler and the securing plate and backplate and all that stuff.

So, for when I get a replacement motherboard, I'll need more thermal goop. that's not a problem, plenty of different sorts available.
But what about the sticky pad that was used to secure the cooler's backplate/brace thing to the metal blackplate on the motherboard?

I only got one pad with the cooler, and that's now been used, but I can't seem to find any replacement. Or even any thermal paste solutions that come with sticky pads, or anything similar.

Do they matter?

I figure it must be better to have a pad between the bare metal of the backplate and the bare metal back of the socket on the motherboard, but the fact that I can't find any supply of them is making me wonder.

Any advice?...

double sided tape. is the pad you're talking about like foam or scotch tape?

you should be able to get double sided tape just about anywhere, like walmart, target, home depot and the like.

It was more like a thick (2mm?...) foamy pad, rather than just tape.

it was also mighty good adhesive. Took some effort to get the backplate back off the motherboard's back!

3M definitely has some kind of product like that.

I'm a teacher and it was used to attach a compact "smart board" type device to my white board. Casual attempts to pull it off have failed. I'm not sure exactly what it's called.

Cool, I'll see if I can find anything in my local Staples.

Failing that, I'm sure the interwebs will be my saviour.

Thanks for the advice!

Not quite sure why would you want to stick the back plate to the motherboard unless you want it to be a semi permanent fixture or you remove the heatsink often. Getting it off is a pain, cleaning the sticky residue is a pain.

But if you insist, get 3M double sided foam tape. Probably the best double sided tape I've ever used, never bought the cheap stuff since then. It sticks well, too well and less sticky residue compared to other brands.

Double sided foam tape. You don't have to peel off both sides. It is an insulator to keep the solder points on the motherboard from grounding out on the CPU coolers metal back plate. Just peel off one side and stick it to the back plate.

Ah! Nice, thanks for the extra pointers.

Yeah, I assume it's supplied for a good reason, to prevent metal-on-metal contact, which is generally a bad thing within a PC case. Hell, if for no other reason than it would also help deaden any vibrations!
