Coolbits - does it do anything anymore?

Just checking on the good 'ole nvidia coolbits reg "hack". With newer drivers, does it still enable things that aren't normally enabled in the drivers?

I tried it a few months back and it did nothing. You have to download separate apps now from Nvidia's website which are very bloated to get similar functionality.

Bloated it may be, but you get a lot more functionality. Just use whatever you're familiar with.

The new NVIDIA System Tools (I'm guessing it replaces nTune) allows slightly different shader clocks too. Besides that, you get core, memory, fan, monitoring with logging. Useful enough.

That brings back memories. I remember using the Coolbits hack to overclock my FX5200 🙂

Yeah, I had a Geforce 2 MX that got great core overclocks. IIRC I added a heatsink to the back of the PCB.

You can use the sedona reg and coolbits to use the classic control panel with less bloat.

Damn I miss the good ol' days of overclocking - where it used to be so much adventurous.
My GTS I had did not have any ram sinks, so I took out an old 486 cooler, cut it into 4 pieces and used Arctic Silver 2 and epoxy to stick em on. If I screwed up, I pop the card into a freezer, take a credit card and slip off the ramsinks for a second try.

Nowadays, gfx cards are covered by this gargantuan plastic/metal covering.
