Dye

Regarding the dye I linked to above, will such UV coolant dyes alter the color of the fluid only under UV lighting, or will the color change be apparent even without UV lighting.

I ask as I was planning to purchase some UV coolant dye to add to my car when I do a flush/fill of the system with Zerex G-05, which is nearly clear when mixed 50/50. I was looking to add some dye to the fluid for easier fluid level checks, but was wondering if the dye would be effective without UV lighting.

Also, does anyone know of cheaper sources for UV Coolant dyes?

Thanks.

Dude.... wtf?

As to the OP, UV dye without UV light wont show. However, depending on the stuff, it may have a hue of the color its supposed to be. Ive seen some with a little bit of color, and I've seen some thats completely transparent.

also, you have to be careful about the dye that uses UV light. Tygon tubing is mostly UV proof. also, UV has a tendency to degrade tubing. Of course this depends on the wavelength of the UV light you're using and the tubing you're using. You'd be better off finding UV reactive tubing me thinks.

why do You want it to show without UV or why don't you just Get UV lights?
couldn't you use any type of dye for reg color // food coloring? would it mess up the works?

Well, I'm just looking for something to dye coolant a different color, without the usage of lights. But I've found a buddy who's an engineer at an oil plant who can get me a few ounces of industrial dye so I think I've answered my own question. Thanks for all of the responses.
