However I personally find merit in looking at these images not from the point of "America Fvck yeah" but seeing that not only are our enemy human but so are our soldiers. And that's important to remember.

"cool" war pictures?

A few of the posters probably have a few GB of videos of Iraqi insurgents and Taliban getting their heads blown off by 50 Caliber rounds that they watch over and over because they are "cool".

While I am happy to see our enemies vanquished, I don't happen to think that it is "cool" to watch their gory last moments on earth.

The only "cool" war photos IMHO are the ones of your parents and grandparents of them with their unit buddies in a moment of calm and relative peace in a crazy time.

I have 2 great WWI pics my grandfather took while he was fighting in France. I dont have them scanned and i should do that because the pics are not in the best of condition.

1. shows no-man-land with trees looking like telephone poles, shell creaters everywhere. a couple air burst and ground burst are caught in the frame. in the middle it shows a german soldier half in a shell hole pulling another german soldier into the hole.

2. shows a few german pow's with their hands in the air with americans pointing thier 1903 springfields with bayonetts at them.

my grandfather was in 5 major battles in WWI they are listed on his discharge papers. i know two are the 5th german offensive and the other is the meusse argone.

A smart rifleman re-zeros in every new climate. Some even have a seperate zero for night and day (big temp diff in the desert)

I have a bunch of good photos but unfortunately most are just prints, and I dont have the negatives, and no scanner. I will try to post some when I get home tonight.

two greatest "war" pics of all time are Iwo Jima flag raising, and the sailor kissing the nurse in Times Square on VJ day.

Which is why its imperitive we wage this war we're waging. So it doesnt happen again.
The simple fact of the matter is, we WILL have to fight them. Now, when a young individual of Middle Eastern decent walks into a grocery store or bank with a backpack on do you know why I'm not sh1tting little green apples?

EDIT: These are some very moving pics you guys have linked, great job! My Grandfather flew in the Army Air Force during WW2 as a tailgunner. His troop has some amazing shots (both enemy and US planes getting ravaged) which I'll try to get scanned and posted soon.

And to the always ever thread-jacking JLGatsby, just stop already.
 
oh man i was talking to my mom (its her birthday!) and we got on pictures of WWII. she has box fulls of pictures her father took in WWII. she is going to send them to me. He also has/had a bunch of stuff he collected in teh war.

its a damn pitty he died a few years ago. i would love to hear some stories about the stuff.
